Commandos BEL on XP unable load saved games

I've gotten to the fourth mission just fine, saving and loading, no problem. But once I'm inside the actual base with the mansion and I try to load my saved games it closes the game, saying that windows XP encountered a problem and needs to close the game.

Is there a fix to this problem? Or do I have to start the mission over for the third time and hope I don't screw up once I'm inside the walls or I'm going to have to start over yet again?
