Default In-game is incredibly slow! Help?!

Hello!
Finally got the game and installed it and everything went smoothly! Although the main menu, mouse, and especially in-game modes all move excruciatingly slow. It is so frustrating. I have a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista and it is new as of this year. I'm not sure how to make the game run smoothly! Can anyone help me or give any suggestions?

Thanks!

Do you know what kind of GPU you have? That is the most important part of your system as far as gaming is concerned. Most likely you have simply set the graphics to high, and your GPU can't handle it. Try to find out the GPU model, and post your graphics settings.

Oh ok. Let's hope I can even find that!

Can anyone give me any directions on how to find the GPU settings?

You should be able to see your GPU in device manager. That's My Computer>View system information>Hardware tab>Device Manager. It should say under "Display adapter".
By graphics settings I meant your Batman settings. Enter Game Setup (should be in the Eidos folder in the start menu), click "Settings" and post a screen shot of what you see.

That's a mobile cpu so I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you've probably got an integrated Intel graphics chip.

Easiest way to find out for sure's just to right click somewhere on your desktop, go to personalize, display settings and you should see a line of text that says something like "such and such monitor on such and such graphics chip".

If it's an Intel chipset there's probably nothing you can really do other than lower everything to its absolute minimum settings and hope it can manage a playable framerate. If it's an nVidia or Ati chipset you might be able to do a bit better.

OK, try turning down the resolution a bit, and switch all those yeses to noes, and see if the game runs smoother.

The game does run smoother! Still does lag though. Anything else I can do?

You will have problems running this game on this chipset. As stated, you need at least Nvidia 8000 or similar ATI card to run. It is recommended that you have Nvidia 9800 (or similar ATI) to run properly.
Running Batman on a laptop is not advisable due to the technology limitations.
The only option you have is turn down everything low including the screen res. The lowest is 600 x 800 (4:3). You can turn the detail level to medium. The game will still lag but not as much. It will be very playable but not as it should. ( I know as I play it like this. I cannot afford a new graphics card yet! lol! )
If you have a powerful PC, install it and play on that.

You can always try this link. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=93961. Go to the first post, click on the link and type Batman Arkham Asylum in the the first field or select the game from the drop list list in the second field. Your results should be displayed.

Intel makes good cpus but their graphic chipsets are unfortunately garbage through and through.

And you can't simply upgrade it on a laptop either, you're stuck with what it came with.

dual gtx280m video cards. (soon upgrading to dual Mobility hd 4870's, which would mean no more physx for me but idc about physx i just want more performance.)

Yes I know that laptops have improved alot. This was directed towards the mainstream laptops which you can buy from high street electronic retailers. Not much retailers offer quad core laptop anyway because of the price. Around here (in the UK) you have to pay at least 2,000 pounds (approx $3,100) for a quad core laptop. However in some way or other, laptops still have limitations on them. Making a laptop as fast as a PC is not feasible. Yes, it can be done, but at what costs?
Not everyone can afford them. Why spend that on a laptop anyway? For that much, you get a much more powerful, top of the range PC with even better specs!
Just my 2 cents worth anyway. BTW, this is not a rant. I am just simply expressing my views. I do not wish to cause offence at anyone. Apologies if I have caused offence.

i completly respect your opinion.
and the things u stated are very true.
powerful laptops are indeed very expensive ,
i have a much more powerful desktop pc which i use at home,
but i love traveling with my partner, and i just cant travel without my games , so i earned up alot of money and got a powerful gaming laptop.

That's no laptop, it's a portable desktop! Seriously, how long can that monster run of off pure battery power?

i have no idea, i always plug it in, hotels/friends houses/ etc always plugged in. so i dont know how long the battery lasts.
but i can tell u it eats up alot of power , its got a really huge ac adaptor.

while traveling i use my Asus EEE mini pc in the car or plane. but when in hotels i plug in the gaming laptop.

cant travel without my games

Theirs a compromise in making a computer mobile and the gpu's in lappy's (gtx280, etc) are not the same as the desktop gpu's.

You can get very powerful laptops but as stated above your looking at about 2 grand or more.

Games like batman are probably the most demanding thing you can get a pc to do, and the op's lappy just wasn't made for that kind of work load.
