flat ps2 problems

I have a flat ps2 and i have had it for a few years and it has been not reading disecs for a year and a half maby.... but i went on to googel to look for ways to make it stop not reading discs....and i should put in that i have to continulesly turn it off and on to work and only sertin games it dosent doit to as much mostly ps1.... but any ways some one rote that i should use achohal and coton swabs to clean the lens...it worked but (i was playing mercinaries 1) i was playing and it froze and i tried it agen but then when i turned it back on it went strait to the browser menu sooooo i went and watched tv for awhile and came back and turned it on and it took a long time on the opening sony thigh and i knew it woudnt read..... how do i make it stop
