We all know bosses will be in this game,I hope it's the good ol shoot em up like the first game.Ah the memorable fights against Anna,Gunther and Walter.
That Barrett will be the first boss fight in my opinion,I hope he doesn't die early in the game he would make a good nemesis. Also the bald 47 guy will be in this game,he looks like an ordinary human, you know hardly augmented but we'll see. Also the last boss was suppose to be similiar to Adam.Hmm a clone maybe? We'll see. |

Ya I hope they don't over-do the idea of the boss fights. For example: a giant robot that takes 30 rockets to the face to die or something.
I much rather see just like some really tough agents that come after you. Heavy armor, fast , tough, but not unreasonable to kill. And hell noes to the quicktime events. For sure. I don't think that's in the cards though. |

EM has confirmed that boss-fights will be like those in Deus Ex: The Conspiracy.

I just think the enemies should have the same powers available to us, something equals to us.
like the bosses in the original Deus Ex or even nameless mod, but we can be certain to see them with a piece of heavy weaponry like a minigun, a rocket launcher and some weapons / offensive mods. But the best of all is to keep the fact we aren't forced to fight them, we can find a mean to neutralize or avoid them. In Deus Ex we can avoid some bosses, Walton Simmons is an example, Anna Navarre in battery park. The bosses needs to be hard to defeat only because they have strong weapons and some agility and powers. Not by using a sort of ugly mutation to tranform themselves into a godlike creature, or using an overarmed vehicle and we are forced to fight it second some rules like for example destroying some power sources and finally finish it by emptying our ammo on it ... This will be far from Deus Ex and the spirit of the game

I'd like to see a boss who's very easy to kill but happens to be backed by a shedload of enemy soldiers -at least that way it's more realistic than fighting some kind of super-soldier/Terminator guy.
eg. FEAR (not the big robot suits): |

Quicktime events will definitely be involved.
If we're lucky, the game will be a continuous quicktime event during which the player has to press a random button every 5 hours. Since the game will only be 3 hours long and 2,5h of that will be the hints and a tutorial to get every drooling retard to understand the concept of breathing, you will win the game by pressing ENTER. |

A Fistful Of Augs sounds like a pretty great game. Do you have any reviews?

Reminds me of something. One thing I find unique in Deus Ex is that the boss fights weren't very different from other fights, it's just that you were facing one, very powerful enemy. I always cleared through bosses with a good GEP Gun, right from the first playthrough. It was easy, but it made sense: you can't survive a rocket fired two meters from you, even if you're augmented. It made Walton Simons a joke.

Indeed. Head shots with the sniper rifle, a rocket or a quick burst to the head with the assault shotgun still killed even the hardest of the augmented agents easily. You could kill Simons without him ever having seen you. Not many boss fights like that in other games.

Because Deus Ex wanted to be more realistic than other games.
But I think we should have bosses with augmentations that use them, like for example a Boss with the Aggressive defense system, the ballistic protection, the speed aug, or a stealth boss with a silenced sniper rifle and that can be invisible and run silent that can throw some drones to kill you. Basically we can do bosses with special augs that can be hard to defeat just be cause they have some special powers, like the ones we have and not because they have 1 thousand HP and a special sequence we need to do to defeat them. Some persons seems to think some bosses are bunk, but that's perhaps the interesting thing that Deus Ex have, no ?

I'd say it's because boss battles are logical in Deus Ex. They don't occur in a highly systematic method, like after every two levels; they happen only when the story requires them. They basically don't give that same 'boss battle' vibe most other games do.

First time I faced Walton Simons, I fired off the GEP gun just before the conversation cutscene started. It hit him as he was running towards me, but the scene carried on as normal. He died as soon as the cutscene ended. :P

Let no one else wonder to themselves, "why did eidos Montreal dumb things down to such a degree that their junkware no longer even vaguely resembles Deus Ex"? For this thread has given us an answer.

So... Deus Ex 1 was a shoot-em-up, and Agent 47 (from the Hitman games) will be in D4us 4x 3?
Has this whole forum gone CRAZY? *pulling out a gun* Am I the only one who gives a about the IP?

This thread got awesome really fast.
Also, just a personal thing, I do hope the "boss" characters have a special theme for them. Not neccisarily like BAARRRRGH YOU ARE NOW FIGHTING A BOSS BOOM BOOM BANG POW sort of epic theme, but just their own, unique theme, perhaps one that carries over to a quieter mix during the convos with them, etc. Something to just say "this person is special somehow". Then again, I also want a large, delicious soundtrack, so hey!
