Snake you might want to get Fallout 3 for the PC instead of the PS 3 as you can get the download content and the mods on the PC. The PS 3 doesn't have the download content nor any mods for Fallout 3. Make sure you'll be able to run it on your PC well however. If not then it's the PS 3.

Considering the engine, this game probably won't compare well graphically in 2010.

Or the other way around. With D'Astous' comments from the Thi4f interview, it's starting to look like they're considering release on a new generation of consoles. Hmm,extensive engine hacking? Remind anyone of anything?

Agreed in principle, but....if all I care about is gameplay, then I'll just play the original Deus Ex. I think we can all agree DX3 won't top the original in gameplay terms, so as far as I'm concerned it better have lovely pretty graphics for me to stare at. If it has sub-DX1 gameplay and not particularly special graphics, what appeal will it have?

That may be true, but what we are looking for is not better graphics (well, some of us at least), rather, we want more of the DX experience. I have played DX1 more times than I care to remember so I am looking for more of that. Therefore graphics aren't that important. Quite frankly I am very happy that they are not using some shiny, high-tech bloom obsessed engine as this would only serve to distract the development team from making the core gaming experience perfect. Heck, if they announced that they were using the Unreal Engine 1.0 I'd probably be even happier

I think lighting, colour and the style they use will be important, but realistic graphics aren't my concern either. I'm more concerned about the story and character development, two crucial things for me when I really want to enjoy a game.

With generic gameplay and standard graphics, nothing will make this game stand out, and it will get massively overlooked. |

Don't you think DX3 deserves to be overlooked if it features nothing that's actually good and yet destorys the franchise (even more)?

Absolutely. The general "who care's about the old people who liked Deus Ex?" mentality of the development team, coupled with the "who cares about new people who want DX3 media?" has to make this one of the worst games as far as publicity and positive-hype goes.
Who knows? Maybe the complete blackout and lengthy delay mean that they're going back to the drawing board on several of this game's features. That would be nice. |

I think a big reason for the "blackout" is simply that they aren't that far into the development process. I think it will be a long time yet before we get to see any video footage or screenshots.

Maybe a year ago, that would have worked. The game has simply been in development for too long for gameplay and images to not exist. Thats why I personally support the theory that its being reworked and has simply been taken back to the drawing board.

Not to mention there was enough already in place for Mr. K to actually play the game when he visited the studios a few months ago, and Rene said a while back that they had 3 hours or so of solid, playable code.

Or maybe he got taken hostage by the Illuminati and managed to escape and used that as a cover up so no one would know what really happened.

René: I trust you've been able to find yourself a place within the organization?
Mr. K: I'm personally overseeing the distribution of visit information, but it'll still take months to restore interest in this game - we'll have to arrange for additional videos and web sites in Europe... maybe the US as well. René: All through the proper intermediaries, of course. Mr. K: Intermediaries? René: We have a great number of... agencies, who in turn operate other agencies. Boxes stacked one in another. They'll need to be reactivated, but we never reveal anything directly. We only influence. Suggest. Insinuate. Mr. K: The world must know by now, René. What we've done. René: Know what? Only that the long night is over. The crown of Eidos is tarnished - but that will fade in time. The boards, a fever dream; the PCZone article, a horrible nightmare; and like everything else that's happened such things will only be dimly remembered upon waking to their normal lives. In the end, all sins are forgiven. Even yours. Mr. K: What about (deleted)... and the (deleted)? René: Do you really think they're ready for that? After everything you've seen, everything you've done? Mr. K: [long pause] No. Not yet. René: But soon. We have made our own mistakes, became insulated from the world we sought to control. And whatever they may think, the night is far from over. But that will change, and you will help us change even as we teach you. This time - this time we will do it right. Mr. K: And who are we? Who are we really? René: We are the Invisible Hand. We are the Illuminati. We come before and after. We are forever. And eventually... eventually we will lead them into the day. |

Hehe
Awesome. But I also remember René mentioning that there was 3 hours of complete gameplay available already. Heck, if this game is nearly as much like COD4 as most of the pessimists think it will be then thats nearly a complete game! |

I don't know why anyone would want new info in the first place. Every new info release is like a gut punch. I'd personally have been much happier if I had been allowed to imagine that Eidos wasn't going to screw this game up right up to the release date, rather than having that fantasy destroyed when it was.

Would you really want to suffer the disappointment of thinking they were giving a Deus Ex-style game a 4/10 and saying "You might as well just play Call of Duty?" I'm happier knowing where this game is going now... so I can... "plan around it."

I liked COD4, but it is a linear shooter with a 6 hour singleplayer campaign, mostly focused around its multiplayer features.
DX3 is a singleplayer-only action/RPG. True they both have health regen (though they're not identical systems) but other than shooting bad guys, that's about all they share. DX3 has a large and layered story, characters to meet and interact with, missions to choose or reject, character progression and modification, weapon customization, multiple solutions to gameplay puzzles/objectives, non-linear levels, consequences to your actions, etc. etc. Thanks. |
