Just curious on people's thoughts of a remake of the first game using a modified source engine.

If you mean an official remake, why would Eidos want to use Source? They have their own engine which they know better.

No, not official. I think it might be too much of a stretch for them to spend the resources on it.

A remake with a more modern game engine would be wonderful, but also a huge task and I don't think there are any fans who would be able to dedicate years of their spare time to such project.

Nah. The motivation would have to be profit --- i.e., a new game that could be sold to many people, not just the old die hard fans of DX1.
It'll probably happen someday, but not in the form anyone expects. Probably as a small part of a much larger package, where you can go through the story as multiple characters, with even more options, on a level of interactivity that's just not feasible now. It would require an increase in gaming technology that would alter the whole equation of profitability, where catering to the fan base of smaller, more dedicated "cult" games becomes practicable. |
