Recently joined the forums, even though I've been meaning to join in on the discussions for quite some time, considering my love for Deus Ex. I've always admired how the first one came to be. How it was a great labor of love and how it seamlessly (well, for the most part) merged so many elements together and how it really let you choose the way you wanted to play it. I can only hope this new game in the series truly adheres to such principles and evokes the same kind of reaction from its fanbase as the first one did.

I don't want my first post to be an insurmountable wall of text, so I'll keep it as short as I can Hi to everyone and I hope to get to know all of you guys soon

Hello Everyone.

My name is Joe and I live in Englandshire.

I picked up DX in 2001 from a large market on the site of an old cold war US airfield.

It cost me £5.00.

I never had butterflies and felt real fear before whilst playing a damn video game.

But this was completely different. So very immersive. Totally astonishing. And although the graphics were much more basic in those days the characters were very real.

Let's just give ourselves a giggle with the minimum hardware and software specs for that original game.

Intel 300 MHZ P II or equivalent
Windows 95/98
64 MB RAM..... WHAT????????
Direct X 7.0a compliant 3d accelerated video card.
150mb hard drive. (There are 16GB pen drives now for God's sake!!!)

How can anyone possibly enjoy a game which only requires this junk??

Well I did. Much better than any GTA.

So I payed full price in the store for IW as soon as it came out.

It was a disappointment, but not as much as most others have experienced. The gameplay was still pretty good.

The only sequel that compares for me is the mod TNM which has everything. All the 'in' DX jokes and characters pop up at the most unexpected times. (Walton Simons in a book shop. Ha Ha. Nice one.)
Plus a book seller with encyclopedic knowledge of the original game. I talked to him for hours.

DX is a truly great all - time game and a difficult act to follow.

I hope that after Human Revolution is out and has been played and loved by the DX faithful that the original DX will be re-done in 3d with a sort of an episodal story.

The original was done in 3D.

Oh... unless you mean stereoscopic 3D, what with the polarized glasses and $h1t.

You know - I'm gonna get flogged for this - but I actually don't much like that new 3D stuff. Either I don't notice it, or I do notice it and it becomes too much of a focal point. lol

I'll just stick with 2D.

er~ the 3D with the glasses? No ones gonna flog you for that. Anything that requires you to wear special glasses (especially if you wear glasses to see well already) in your living room (and require a pair for everyone else watching as well) is darn stupid. The only thing that doesn't do this is the Nintendo 3DS. Doesn't require glasses~ so that makes a huge difference and I'm interested to see how well it performs.

If you meant 3D as in 3D models~ you're also right, but only for fighting games

Ah, well then, I'm glad I have some support. Last few times I've been out to the movies and I've brought up how I'd rather just save myself a couple bucks and watch 2D, my girl looked at me like I was psychotic. lol

Yes. The only movie I've seen that really knew how to use Stereo 3D to immerse you was Avatar. Even Alice in Wonderland failed to utilize the tech with any proper artistry... though I did love that movie.

Avatar I only really noticed it in the first scene with the drops (And again, was waaay too focused on it) but beyond that, never really saw it again.

Monsters vs Aliens (Yeah, that just happened, and you did just read that) had a nifty little scene featuring a yo-yo. It was completely gratuitous, but it worked I suppose.

That's the point, mate. It was used pervasively, but it was rarely if ever in-your-face. It was just there, drawing you into every scene, every frame. The 3D was marvelous, but mostly subliminal. That's the artistry of it.

I've said it in another thread a while back; Stereoscopic 3D is no different than any tech. In the wrong hands its useless. In the right hands, it can make all the difference in the world.

Some people appreciate immersion in their movies and games. 3D will play a big role in that in the coming years.

i HATE 3d movies. this happens every ten years of so im i just sick of it. i have to wear stupid glasses and they charger you extra for it. we couldnt even find a regular 2d version of toy story when we went and so it was 11 bucks a pop.

avatar had fancy graphics but i was bored half way through the movie. the writing was horrible. everyone has heard the ferngully and dances with wolves jokes already. they arent kidding. and as someone who knows several people in the military and keeps up to date with the tech (at least as much as a civie can) their representation of the military was an utter joke. for crying out loud the tree was within 20km of their base and our current generation of MLRS go over 40km. did they forget how to make artillery then. not to mention pandora, the most original name for a planet EVER, had lower gravity so the shells would have even gone further.

when 3d doesnt require glasses then ill be happy.

Hai guyz. So when r dus ex 3 cumin out plz?

Don't panic; that was poking fun.

I'm Sean, I live in Birmingham, in England, the sweet land of Fish and Chips/Tea and Crumpets.

Played Deus Ex since it came out on the PS2, got it on PC a year later. Still discovering little things even today.

I've been watching and reading these forums a whole lot since 2007, but when I registered I forgot my username and password soon after, like an idiot, and was more interested in reading the posts than responding to them.

So yeah, hope I can bring something to the community other than 'Invisible War was teh suxxors', 'wat -new stuff?! game r ruined' and 'Never Gonna Give You Up...'.

I've posted here and there on these boards for a little while now, but I figure it's time for a proper introduction.

I'm Graeme - from southern Ontario, Canada. I'm a university student (doing a little bit of everything), a rugby fanatic and have been known to dabble in a classic RPG/shooter known as Deus Ex. I'm trying to get a little more involved on the forum as I applied to go to Montreal (a hop, skip and jump away from where I live) to do some testing for EM. I think it would be an awesome experience and know I would do a comprehensive job for them. I'm not sure if my involvement here would improve my chances, but even if it doesn't I'm always eager to analyze, discuss and debate the finer points of DX.

Rock on,

Graeme

Way to be subtle there. We will keep your name in mind when applications come our way. To avoid.
