Default What is the whole video game story-line for Tomb Raider?

Im pretty new to this series, well actually not really. Ive been playing Tomb Raider since AOD was released, but I just couldn't get the story-line straight.

I noticed that there are many different stories behind Tomb Raider, but is there like, a general storyline, to get a good idea of what she has been through, throughout the whole series? It would probably make me more of a fan of the series. Thanks!

To be honest, no, there isn't a general or 'canon' storyline to follow. The storyline has been warped many times by the different games. I can't really help you here I'm afraid, maybe another member can try and work it out for you. We're a helpful bunch, you see.

Here's an (official?) Lara Croft Biography. Hopefully that can be of some help. CLICK ME.

P.S. Oh, and welcome to the forums! Don't forget to check out the Underworld forum HERE.

Like the previous poster said, there is not an official story line, just yet. though, you get the impression that the main storyline is of Lara Croft finding the answers to life, and what powers lie behind each powerful artifact. Along with that, she's trying to keep the artifacts, that hold great power, away from the wrong hands.

Cool Tr 101 - Intro to Lara

here's the story (albeit in a nutshell) ...

if you want to know what TR is about NOW, the story line starts with TRL (2006) the so-numbered 7th game, gratuitously dips back into the past with TRA (2007) and then continues with TRU (2008?), the so-numbered 8th game. her Legend bio pretty much sets the stage for this story line.

the Legend Bio, as you are aware, is at odds with TR history before Legend (i.e. names have been changed to protect ... something, etc.).

if you want to know the inside story on TR PAST (1996:TR1 - 2003:TRAoD) then her previous bio is relevant. as things stand now, this is TR trivia (but any real fan should know Lara's full history).

you now have enough orientation to decipher the wealth of info that can be found on any of a gazillion fan sites ... study well, there will be a mid-term and a final! ...

There is no straight story from TR1 to underworld, like its been said. The original games were each there own adventure, with small things linking them outside the main storyline, such as the trophy room in TR3 that has artifacts from the old games, which was more of a bonus then anything else. Also TR:C (or 5) was based around the previous games as a sort of finaly. If your not into playing all the older games due to there older style graphics or gameplay, but still want to get the jist of there storylines, maybe Tomb raider Chronicles is a good place to go for a quick over view of the series?

I don't think so personally as I don't think Chronicles explained anything about Lara's past other than that how she came to aquire the Iris. The back of the box claimed that the game tied up 'loose ends', but nothing about them (apart, again, from the Iris) had been introduced before, so how can it have been an overview? In fact, Chronicles is one of my least-favourites in the whole series; too contrived and unfocused.

To start, I'd recommend the original or the Last Revelation.
