Sorry mate but i have to dissagree with you, i think they are pointless and frustrating.
I never enjoy being timed in games, i like to take my time. Search around things like that. I actually throw the control with time trial they get on my nerves that much, the make me angry i managed to get to egypt on anniverary and after that i cant be assed. lol

So another way of getting the cheats, but not like the old ones where you jst had to find it in a mag or the net. I want to be able to unlock them

I want time trials ONLY if they are OPTIONAL. I don't want to do them to unlock cheats or outfits. (Pressured into something because I want 100%)

Maybe just a high score of your fastest times.

Default Tomb Raider: Underworld

hey there i dont like the time trails because frankly they're a pain in the ASS if you play a perfect game in the first place successfuly everything should unlock including CHEATS, the time trails should be optional they shouldnt be used to unlock cheats you could still use the time trails after the game when you're done playing i think it would make the game less stressful --- thanks ---- MIKE

Actually even to call them cheats is a misnomer since they are earned. They are really bonus play rewards.

I'd like real "cheats," i.e., codes you can use when you want.

I don't like the time trials either; they just seem anti-TR in a way. Unless there were a really cool unlockable, I will never do them.

Time trials were OK in Legend, with short and easy levels. In TRA... some levels were frustrating enough without the time limit (BTW I hope they'll make Lara's responsiveness better in TRU, cause in TRL and TRA I don't even feel like I'm controlling her fully. I'm never 100% sure if she jumps as far as I think, or if she grabs the ledge or just fall when I manouver her to walk off a platform... that wasn't an issue in the early games... sorry for the rant lol). I'm happy that there were no outfit rewards for TTs in TRA, because I like to have all of them and I wouldn't make it.
I don't really mind if they drop time trials in TRU, I think finding secrets is enough for getting the rewards.

Time Trials are fine if they are for fun. I don't like how they are compulsory to gaining rewards or cheats. Time Trials can be fun - if the level is short and linear enough. The TTs in TRA were too constrictive, leaving no room for error, so they became aggravating. TRL was better for TTs. As for if they'll be available in TRU... seeming as we're being promised expansive levels with varying ways to complete a level, I can't see how they'd work. Unless whilst playing, you discovered the quickest way and did a TT for that way only.

Cheats. In the earlier games, I didn't even realise there were cheats without going to a walkthrough website. If cheats are available, they should be so from the menu like it was in Legend. Earning cheats early on in game and then being able to use what you've earned in the harder levels seems to be a compromise I'd be happy with. Being handed them on a plate from the beginning seems... a bit too easy, really. Again, cheats should be for fun yet helpful if you're really stuck. Not used as a reward after you've finished the game; it makes it pointless.

To me, Time Trials seem to fly in the face of what TR has traditionally been about. TR games aren't meant to be raced through... for me, they're about exploration, atmosphere, and really taking your time to check out every little corner just in case there's a secret hidden somewhere.
Putting time trials in TR is therefore makes about as much sense as rewarding players for going as slowly as possible through a racing game.

But I agree with those who say it should be optional. I know some people do enjoy trying to complete the levels as quickly as possible, and that's fine, but there should be a way to get 100% completion without doing the time trials.

I hate time trials. With Tomb Raider, I always wanted to take my time to enjoy the scenery/environment. Time trials force you to rush through it all repeatedly and this is annoying.

I don't vote against them in the game, but the regular player should be able to unlock everything on a quest based strategy, not a NFS one.

Edit
Just read Mangar's post above, and noticed how similar mine is. Sorry, I replied to the first post, did not read them all, otherwise this post would have been: "I totally agree with Mangar" :P

well i agree with all of you time trials are such a pain mabey you could unlock them just by completein the game cus like in legend time trials get u clothes and cheats u should just be able 2 get cheats by getin relics and artifacts and yeah people who enjoy time trials: if u have a 360 or ps3 u could go online and see who has the quickest times easy as pie>>> i just wish i could tell eidos and C dynamics to get rid of time-trials for good

I prefer to have a longer game than a short game which justify his life-time with time trial...

However, if the game is very long and has time trial, I wouldn't be displease

I was able to do the time trials for both legend and anniversary...but I HATE time trials. HATE HATE HATE. Do....not....want.

I suppose it could be worse though, they could be tied to difficulty like in Goldeneye for N64. Trying to do it in a certain amount of time while also on a certain difficulty level. People who completed the chemical plant/facility level on hard in the time allotted simply weren't human.

I'm ok with time trials as long as the reward isn't relevant to the game play. Like maybe enabling commentary for the level or something. xD

I'm not entirely fond of unlocking cheats to begin with. They shouldn't even be labeled cheats since you're unlocking them, they're more like enabled privileges.
I don't think they should make you unlock the cheats because if you have to beat the game to get them, then it defeats the purpose of having them in the first place.

Cool deep breaths ...

time trials are a creative challenge for the devs also!

they'll be back. (and they serve multiple purposes.)

also, cheats, for the most part, spoil gameplay so it is okay that they are unlocked after proper gameplay.
i know there's extenuating circumstances to consider but i think the current implementation is a balanced trade-off ...

As far as the idea of cheats go, I think they should go back to the old button enter while facing north process. This ofcourse is just an opinion, the same goes for saying that cheats spoil game play and they should be unlocked. But if you feel that cheats spoil game play then just don't use them in the first place. :P

When I discovered that the only way to unlock cheats was to finish the game while collecting, I was kind of disappointed but in a way, I can appreciate it. Unlike me, for gamers who are sticklers in gettingeverything to unlock everything, more power to them. I can't even find everything and I become frustrated after a while.

I remember in past TR games that all we had to do was have Lara jump and flip around during gameplay to retrieve All Weapons and Inventory. Those were the days. LOL..
Remember the Exploding Lara cheat in TRIII ??
Not to make fun of her dying, but you can't help but laugh at that.

But I suppose the button activated cheats would limit the players to actually completing the game and the developers followed other games' trends in the way that as mentioned before, they must complete the game to gain rewards and cheats. In that sense, people would feel rewarded.

HOWEVER, I really dislike the Time Trials to unlock anything in any game. I'm one of those who don't like to feel rushed and pressured.

When will Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A, Start.... or Select, Start type of cheats return again ?

Probably never for TR but I'm just nostalgic.

Time Trials are great but speed shouldnt be what tomb raider is all about (thats why it isnt). I'm going to hate doing time trials because of the beautiful graphics, they will be so distracting, I'll be leaping from one ledge to another and in mid jump, I see refleections in the puddles created by the rain and its rippling..I need time to stare at that lol, the next thing i know i'll have forgoten to use the grab button and fallen to my death or into a pit of snakes or a botomless pit or w/e they will have, either way...I't will look amazing

Cannot say l am a big fan of time trials, although l had a lot of fun with Legend on the consoles, l am hopeless on the PC at anything requiring speed so never completed all the time trials on the PC, and have still not played the PS2 version of Anniversary. Time trials are optional, as are cheats, and extra outfits, pretty sure you got 100% without them. Time trials are for experts who want that extra challenge, or people who are just not happy till the unlock everything. Its like the rewards on the XBox360 versions, you do not have to do them, you can just complete the game, or complete the game and get all the secrets to unlock a few extra things, nobody is forcing you to do time trials.

It does not matter how long the level is, they will still give you enough time to complete it in a time trial if you have practised enough to be an expert. Some times were very generous, especially in Legend you could usually do it easy after just playing the level a few times. Most classic Tomb Raider players will automatically look for alternate ways of doing things while they explore every nook and cranny, you do not always have to be Speedy Gonzales to complete a time trial.
