so i have been playing this game since the demo came out and just yesterday, i bought the game. way too excited for a game. =)
But the one thing i have noticed is that sometimes i hit the ships and they take mass amounts of dmg and other times, they take mimimal. Like for example, if you hit a BB right under the control tower with a couple torpedoes, it will not take nearly as much dmg as if you hit it more towards the bow of the ship.. (natually though. the ship would have more armor where it is most cecepitable to enemy fire. ) This is only one example though. Does anyone else have any other input on critical strike areas on the various ships? perhaps we could put together a good thread to help all those sharpshooters knock down a few more ships with some nice placed torps or main deck guns

I would be interested to see some of the designs for these ships...I will BET that Eidos actually used the real armor thicknesses for game design purposes. Although, as we all know, this is a GAME and not a SIMULATION. As indicated in another post, the guns fire at an incredibly high angle for what would have to be almost a direct shot at 1.5 miles (historical range on some of these guns was well over 10 miles)...so many shots hit deck armor instead of belt armor.

well i do remember reading on the main site for the game that there were 'sweet-spots' to hit on the ships. i am going to spend the next week or so and just see what exactly i can find out.
so all you out there in those smaller ships, look out. you are first

each ship has 4 sweetspots (five on the carrier as you can also damge the flight deck) - rudder/steering in the stern, fuel tanks kind of between stern and midships, Engine midships, magazines forward from midships but short of the bow.
The larger the ship the more "body" or non sweet spot there is between these four locations. Each area can take a different amount of damage based on the armor of the particular ship. You attack has to breach the armor before the sweet spot is vulnerable. |

just hit below the forward second turrets (unless its the fubuki class then just hit the smokestacks). Large firey explosion followed by sinking ensues :-)

Just aim for the bridge, you'll eventually hit the sweet spot.
Sometimes it takes more shots than others but you'll eventuallly hit it. The 'sweet spot' inflicts minimal flood damage on just about every section of the ship. This makes virtually every shot afterwards to cause flood damge. If they are on flood control during the blow it won't do alot of damage but the constant water biuld up from persistant hits will take it down very quickly. It also causes a fire which prevents them from devoting all three guys to flood damge, further adding to the damage. |

The 'sweet spot' is either the fuel tank or the magazine. They are all located in the same spot. The only ship that doesn't have sweet spots is subs. They take general damage all around. The engine is in the middle of the boat. Steering is at the back.
I'll make a crappy picture that explains. The boat is facing right. ______________||_______||--------------||________________ steering --- Fuel tank --- body --- engine --- body --- magazine --- body ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // underwater ___________________________________________________ // Every boat works this way. |
