Default What is your favorite ship/plane/submarine?

Before anything Gamestop does have a release date for Battlestations Midway, it is set to release on January 16, 2007.

What will be the machine of war that you are looking towards the most. Is it the Yamamoto? The Gato clas submarine? The B-17 Flying Fotress? All of you already know I have a love for the battleship Massachusetts, but I want to hear what will be your choice.

PT boats all the way. Fast agile and fragile but deadly at the same time. If I was to go planes then Torpedo bomber would be my choice only for destructive power.

Since nobody has mentioned it, I would like to fly the dive bombers. Coming in at a high approach and then diving down on the target at a near vertical angle of attack, releasing and then pulling out just in time before augering into the waves. Torpedo bombers are for thsoe who like to go low and slow--which is why a lot of them got shot down during the Battle of Midway.

i would like going around in subs, have other ships and planes keep them distracted on the surface and come in silently kill a few and leave before they knew what hit them. as for planes, i agree with knightwriter, torpedo planes are too slow and i don't like the idea of running headlong into enemy AA, but at least they make the enemy's fighter cover loose altitude to fight them while the dive bombers come in high almost unopposed, like in the battle of midway

That description reminded me so much of Battlehawks 1942 (Amiga). Diving down to get the torpedo bombers only to have a squadron of drive bombers appear and you just can't get the altitude fast enough.

I was hoping they would have one of the Bogue, Attacker, Ameer, and-or Ruler class of escort carriers, but guess my favorite will have to be any of the other aircraft carriers in the game.

Well eh I would like to use kamikaze planes, do you think that the option to equip your plane with a kamikaze kit will be included? If not, well the Zero is my favorite air plane.

i don't think you will be able to go kamikaze because they didn't use kamikaze tactics until later in the war

i agree, it would be fun, i would like to be able to go kamikaze with a ship, if one is badly damaged i would like to run it full speed into the enemy fleet seeing how many ships i can run through before they get me. But you may have the ability to do damage by ramming the enemy with planes or ships because it would be realistic, but I don’t think you would be able to outfit your plane with only enough gas for a one way trip and a bunch of high explosives, because as I said they didn’t do that that early in the war (at least not to my knowledge)

I would like to see the:

Porter Class
Although the U.S. Navy possessed the largest fleet of destroyers in the world, it desired a class of ships which could serve as destroyer "leaders", mainly due to the lack of light cruisers with which to fill that role. The result was the Porter class. Built to the treaty limit of 1850 tons for "leaders", the Porters originally had 8 5-inch single-purpose guns in 4 turrets. The 5-inch guns were replaced by 6 heavier but more useful dual-purpose guns and heavier AA armament for wartime service.

Launch: First launched 1935
Displacement: 1834 tons 2597 tons full load
Length: 381ft 1in
Beam: 37ft
Draft: 13ft
Max Speed: 37 knots
Endurance: 6,500 nm (12 kt)
Armor: N/A
Guns: 3x2 5in/38 dual-purpose
AA: 2x40mm Twin Bofors 1x40mm Quad Bofors 6x20mm Oerlikons
Torpedo tubes: 2x4 21in

one destroyer or any figther plane is enough for me since i like the felling of fyling around up high and dont mind attacking bigger ships. but hunting ptboats will be awesome and the destroyer class ships are made for support ackording to me so i just stay near any larger ships that take the punish and give some back while i search the area for planes, submarines and pt boats (which i will own of course )

Fletchers fill the job pretty well
5 single vs 3 twins in main guns
if 1 gets hit F loses 1/5 of it's fire power
if P loses 1 turret 1/3 of your firepower is lost
Torps F has 2 banks of 5 to P's 2 banks of 4
but since it seems that DD's will be cloned on both sides(both having 2 banks of 3)
the Fubuki whould be the Porter you want

My favorite plane from the Pacific theater would have to be the Vought F4U Corsair. Still wondering why this beauty was left out of the game but hopefully it will make its way as downloadable content. Just something about those bent wing that just gives it a really tough appearence.

Tribal-class destroyer, specifically the HMCS Haida. But she was in the Atlantic mostly. In the Pacific it would be the Robert H. Smith-class destroyer Aaron Ward, from the book "Brave ship, Brave men"
