Cool First Tomb Raider Anniversary screenshot released

NEW TOMB RAIDER ANNIVERSARY SCREEN
Copyright 2006 www.tombraiderchronicles.com

[ October 27th 2006 ]

Eidos has sensationally unveiled a spanking new screenshot from Tomb Raider Anniversary, a special celebratory video-game being developed by Crystal Dynamics to mark 10 years of Lara Croft.

Tomb Raider Anniversary has drawn its inspiration from the original adventure that started it all. UK developer Core Design introduced the action-adventure genre in 1996 with the release of Tomb Raider, the first 3D-adventure game with a female lead. Crystal Dynamics now carry the baton, garnering critical acclaim from Tomb Raider Legend and scooping a BAFTA in the process.

During an phenomenal 10-year-journey, Lara Croft has transcended the world of cyber-space and left an indelible mark on popular culture. Her adventures have sold in excess of 30 million units, and the Tomb Raider brand has been globally exploited to promote an array of products; from comic-books, sports drinks, running shoes and more recently to raise awareness of skin cancer.

"Over the years, the fans of the Tomb Raider franchise have been constantly asking for a new version of the original Tomb Raider. We have answered the call with Tomb Raider Anniversary." says Eidos PR specialist Matt Dalgren.

That looks very nice! I love it!! And I like the fact they're not simply building a replica but instead rethinking the whole thing around the basic story!

And Eidos, I know you're looking here for thoughts and opinions. PLEASE CONSIDER PORTING THIS AWESOMENESS FOR THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE OR WII PLATFORMS. A VERY PLEASED FAN THANKS YOU.

I like the way her hair falls into her braid, it is very nicely done. And I suppose that is why it is shorter, given that it is the first TR. Although perhaps TR4 length was curled up in that TR1 bun...

Thanks for the screenshot.

The original screenshot filename is "Lara Croft and the Lost Valley", so I guess you're right.

And here is Eidos' message to the community:
Quote:
Eidos’ Message to the Tomb Raider Community

Eidos is pleased to announce some special news directly to the Tomb Raider community.

The official name of the next Tomb Raider game is Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary, and the first screenshot is going straight to where it matters most – the people who have supported Lara across the years.

As most of you may already know, Tomb Raider: Anniversary is a revitalized version of the original adventure that started it all. This game is more than just a remake; it is a celebration of Lara Croft and the history of the Tomb Raider franchise.

One would need to be blind to not see the impact that Lara Croft has had, both on gaming in general, as well as pop-culture. She is a character that people connect with, a character that transcends the media in which she was originally presented. However, Lara’s rise to fame didn’t just magically happen. There has been a very powerful, dedicated fan base that has not only tracked her every move over the last 10 years, but helped transform her from being just a video game character, to an international digital celebrity.

Every time a new Tomb Raider game has been released, the fans have asked for a remake of the original. Tomb Raider: Anniversary is our answer. This game is for the fans. It only makes sense that the first information, as well as much more to come, goes directly to the fans. We hope you enjoy the screenshot, and keep your eye out for more information soon…
I've got to say a BIG THANK YOU to Eidos for this. Tomb Raider: Anniversary looks awesome so far.

It looks much like tr:l? Legend had nice graphs but i hope this doesnt turn into a "legendised" version of the original game, i cant explain but the forbiden Core footage felt much more exciting to me, problably because i only went thru Legend once and im replaying TR3? Hmm...

Wow! That is without doubt 'The Lost Valley!' You can just about make out the rope bridge at each side if you look closely! Imagine the T-rex stomping towards Lara through that mist! It looks amazing visually just like TR Legend & Lara is looking stunning in her classic look! Finally I can get excited because the DVD game just didn't interest me. Wow it looks just great & I for one simply cannot wait!!!

I looks as though they're using the Legend Lara from the Classic outfit but kinda "blended in" more like the pistols So ya whoever's disappointed with the pics can just say that they're using that model for now. Either way, I'm fine with it

If Crystal Dynamics is developing the Anniversary edition, then it's not too surprising that it looks like Legend. Would it be so bad if TRA were a "legendised" version of TR1? Hmm. Time will tell. I know what you mean about the Core footage. There were new exciting things in that footage. To be fair, we only have one screenshot to go on at the moment.

I sure hope Tomb Raider Aniversary will be release soon! C'mon guys, take your time and do it right, but hurry!

I'm pretty happy with this bit of news since it shows CD is making progress. The model looks great, but I'm also hoping that the hair type can be selected along with shades and maybe even outfits.

Now as much as a fan as I was of Core's last games, I was throwing one heck of a celebration when their "grid system" was canned to bring us a smoother, more effcient version of Lara that was more then a couple years past due for an overhaul. With the new system we only need to bring back a few moves to make Lara complete as she lost a few in her last transition. Things like crawling, duel-aim, or the classic stand-in-place jumps could be thrown back into the system without causing any control issues. If they do alter the actual game itself (the original level design) to be non-explorable or "non-exploitable" for that matter, we'll have to pray the game itself is at least solid enough, cause we're all waiting for the next title to be the actual thing instead of having another game come out that only bears the title in name only.

I'm gonna hate waiting, but it should be worth it.

Yeah I'm getting high hopes on this one - although I still have this grudge saying that this is one of those LEGEND HYPE DAYS, ending up as a disappointment - even though I still enjoy Legend.

How big of a dissapointment was Legend to you? I was somewhat put off that the game was a huge mix of Sands of time, Max Payne, and Soulreaver with Lara and her theme thrown in for good measure.

They can settle down with the room puzzles as well. CD already has another franchise satuated with that junk and we sure as heck don't need it here.

I dunno ..I guess all I can say is that I got mixed reactions from this game. I mean I'm still playing it on PSP/PS2 everday - all I know is that the game could've been so much better.

It's CD's first shot at the franchise, so you can expect a few things to be different. With more time given they can get used to how things work and deliver on the next game.

Its hard to explain... im not saying that Legend was bad or not TR or whatever, i liked the game even if it was a bit short, easy and with little to explore. I guess what im saying is that i dont know how a mix of TR1 and Legend would feel like.. i know im looking more forward to this TR1 remake than a Legend sequel for some reason...

I dont mind if they "legendise" the graphics, but there are other things i wouldnt like to see changed, or even Legend features to be present, it would be like violating a sacred tomb .

On the other hand the "forbidden" Core footage felt 100% wright, i completely recognised it has TR in its true, original style and it got me excited.

Looking at this very nice picture what came to mind was:
"More Legend? Hmmm...".

...I dunno how Eidos sees this - I mean kicking out a company that made and started off Lara Croft and giving it to the people who are new to making a game for Lara Croft...I dunno what to say..but I have no other choice but to put their hopes on this one huh?/ But really I wonder if Eidos at least thought of that..
