Red face How Do I download?

Yes, it is me again. The absolute beginner with limited knowledge. Anyway, on several of the replies I have read it is suggested to go to tombraider.net and download a game to get passed a certain point. How does this work? If you are on a PC how to you save it to your game so when you go back to the game, the downloaded version is there and not the "old" one? If you can explain this it would be great! By the way, I am not ready to give up yet, just wanted to know. Thank you.

On tombraiderchronicles.com there is a savegame utility that you download by clicking the "download" button and then saving to your hardrive. You then hit the "run" button on the saved file. This program then gives you a dropdown menu to choose which savegame you want (or all of them up to 50 savegames at every concievable point in the game), which writes to your tomb raider legend savegame folder in your "my documents" folder. After selecting the save game you want (identified by level and place in the level, such as, for example "Bolivia Redux-start"), you then start your game and load the appropriate saved game.

Question Now what do I do?

First, John, your advise does sound quite good. I am at fault because I do not understand the whole process. Ok, I found the PC Save Games file on 'Chronicles". It asks do I want to open or save the file. If I save, where do I save it? To the Tomb Raider file in "My Documents"? If this is what I do, then do I have to run the file to get it installed? I am truely sorry for being so uninformed about this process. Thank you for any help you can share.

You want to save the file because it contains a program that allows you to apply different savegames in Tomb Raider Legend and you will likely want to run this program more than one time. As with most downloads, it is not important where you save the file, as long as you know where you saved it. Save to your desktop or to My Documents or C:\, wherever you like. Once you save the file, navigate to the file using whatever means you choose (open My Computer, run Explorer, whatever). I think it is a zip file. Right-click the file and select Extract Files or unzip the contents however you like. It should contain an executable program. Locate the executable program you just extracted and saved and run it (double-click it). I haven't actually seen this program, but it should allow you to choose a savegame and it should copy the savegame to the correct location where savegames go. Someone can correct me if I am mistaken. I hope this helps. We like answering questions, so fire off some more.

Hi, Beginner. You asked about Chronicles on a Legend message board, so I'm not sure which type of save you need.

Save files for each game go in a slightly different place. My page http://tombraiders.net/stella/ziphelp.html covers how to download and install save files for TR1 through Angel of Darkness in some detail.

Legend is a little different, in that your existing save files are in a folder called "Saved Games", which is inside the "Tomb Raider - Legend" folder, which is inside "My Documents". So if you wanted to download Legend saves, you could either follow the others' advice above and use the program from tombraiderchronicles.com that does all the work for you, or download a file from anywhere and manually move the save file into the Saved Games folder.

For example, if you downloaded one of my saves from tombraiders.net, you'd have a file called something.zip. You'd double click that file to open it. Inside you'd find 2 files: a text file explaining how to do all this, and the actual save file, something_or_other.dat. (The real name would be something like "09.19.51 - England - 66%.dat".)

The easiest way to move the .dat file in with your existing saves is to keep that .zip file open and then open My Documents, then open the Tomb Raider - Legend file inside it, then open the Saved Games folder inside that. Then just drag the .dat file into the Saved Games folder.

The only problem with this is that if you already have the maximum number of saves, the new file will overwrite one of your old files, so you won't be able to load it again. You can avoid this by first copying your old save files into a new folder. Then you can move them back into the Saved Games folder later if you want to.

For Chronicles the process is the same, except the save files have number extensions instead of .dat. So they're called savegame.0, savegame.1, etc. Downloaded savegame files for Chronicles should be moved into the same folder where the game program is. To find it, use Windows search function to find PCTomb5.exe. Then just move the downloaded savegame file into the same folder where you find it.

Once the downloaded saves are in the correct folder, just play the game and they will appear on the load game screen along with your other saves.

Kind of long-winded, but I hope that helps.

Hi Beginner,

Stella's site is very user friendly and if you are a "beginner", as wonderful as www.tombraiderchronicles.com is, Stella's site is probably easier to navigate for this purpose. I have downloaded two game save files from there before, one for screenshot purposes and one so that I could play the TR3 bonus level.

Regards,
Mum

Question Really in Legend

Hello, there seems to be a mix up. The only game I have is Legend. One of the replies suggested I go to Chronicles and replies after that assumed I was in that game. As a beginner, the instructions were heart warming. So many willing to help. Yet I am still unsure of how to do the entire proceedure. If I do try it, I will let you know the outcome.
Next item on my list is: There seems to be previous games so if they are still available will they all play on my PC or are they outdated and will not work now? My PC has a nVidia graphics card the 7800. Will any of the previous games work now?

Hi, "Begginer-with-a-nVidia 7800-card..." , in Tomb Raider Chronicles (the WEBSITE, not the GAME ) you'll find a neat utility for creating saved games in any level/checkpoint you want. Download this file (a ZIP file, I believe), extract the program ANYWHERE on your PC, and have fun!

This is the 7th game in the Tomb Raider series, the first dating back to 1996. You can install/run anyone on Windows XP without any trouble, except for that first one (was meant for DOS, a really-really old operating system), wich needs some mayor tweaking with additional software to run. You can find more about Tomb Raider in WinXP in the Tomb Raider Chronicles site. Look for the picture of a babyface with a pirate's eyepatch... haha... "patch"... get it? haha... hummm... well.... I'm outta here now.

Default Reply to Darkness 65

You said to go to the Tomb Raider in WinXP at the 'Chronicales" site. Before I go there, do I need to get a previous Tomb Raider game (1 - 6) before I get a patch? When I get a patch, do I download it to each new game I purchase or does it automatically go to the new Tomb Raider game? These are silly questions, but please remember I am a Beginner.

Well, of course you must have the original games first. The "Tomb Raider in WinXP" pages on TombRaiderChronicles.com have only some patches, software and guidelines on how to install/play any old Tomb Raider game on WinXP. Each game has its own set of patches and guidelines. The must troublesome (to install and play) is the first game. So, when you get a new "old Tomb Raider" game, go to the site for guidance.

Default Thank you

Yes, that does make sense. My only fear is that at some sites they say just click here but when you click they start asking questions that only someone who has been around a PC for a while will know the answer. Thanks for your help.
