arrgghh...

i finished downloading forever ago, and i cant play it

all the unzipping was done, i went to the install.exe and it said it couldn't copy files to this folder, make sure i have priveliges to.

can someone help? i think i know whats wrong...

when i log in (this is my comp, a win xp so im the administrator, though my stepdad has me on his network so he might have disabled changing some stuff but there is no reason to...) it says you are not allowed to make changes in the registry, log in as an administrator and install the font file arialph.ttf

i went into WINNT/Fonts and there is no ariaph, but arial, arial bold etc. I am registered as an administrator, and i think if i could change things in this folder i could successfully install the game

i need some help

I'm in the Siberia portion of the demo. Here's some quick thoughts so far:
  • I am getting literally 3-4 minute load times for QuickLoads (F9). FOUR MINUTES! And this after playing Max Payne all weekend with .0001 second loads. Is anyone else having this problem? I cannot figure out why in the world it takes the game so long to quickload.
  • I can't be sure, but I think there are respawning guards in the Siberia level. And if there's one thing I loathe, its respawning guards. I'm in the building near-ish the fuel depot, the one with the lights out in the back room, and the guards will come make an occasional sweep without turning the lights on. I've been there for a good 25 minutes picking guys off when they come through. My stack of bodies in the other room is at about 10. And yet, there seems to be no fewer guards on the base than when I started! Should I give up with the Silent Kill 'Em All idea and just go sneak past 'em?
  • This game is beautiful. I take back all the things I said about how this game would stink; these were said in haste and based on the first game. Or, more specifically, based on the fact that every single aspect of NOLF was criminally overrated. NOLF 2 looks like the real deal.
  • I love the fact that "jump" doesn't mean "skyrocket 15 feet into the air like Richard Fosbury on crack." It really takes some getting used to after playing most FPSs, but I like the realism of it.
  • It looks like they fixed most of the things that were wrong with NOLF. You can carry bodies, the sneaking has been improved, and it's more possible to get through a level without making any kills. Sound propogation is shows via the crosshairs - which I think it clever. Although I will say I'd like a reward system for going no-kill. Otherwise, the motivation to do so is purely internal, and (for me, anyway) a little too easy to set aside once things get tough.
  • One of the only things I didn't like is the lack of aural clues as to what's around the next corner. I had to reload a lot in the underwater mission after listening to the two guys discuss the salute because I couldn't figure out which direction they were moving, if at all. I dunno... maybe I just suck.
As soon as I figure out what I'm doing wrong in Siberia, I can't wait to go back and play it again.

The levels were very slow to load for me too.

The guards may be respawning, but you are near the guard house....so there will be a few of them around.
You're best bet is to quickly move on as soon as you've cleared an area to the next available hidey-hole.
I was a little disappointed that in some areas the guards still came at you in single file just waiting to be mowed down...but in other areas they were nicely all over the place.

Can't wait for the finished product now!

It wasn't exactly present all the time in the first game.

Personally, I think NOLF2 has lost the original's edge. The Teaser demo felt like more of the same. I guess it's because I had just finished playing NOLF the week before. Even so, it's just got too much of a sequel-ish feel to it. "Oh look! Cate's wearing a midriff-baring outfit! That means this new sequel is way cooler!"

As its a follow up to a game, which means retaining some of the elements that made the first one popular, of course it will have a sequel-like feel to it.

I know what you mean on the whole, but even the demo levels had a bit more polish about them....the AI was keener, the audio and video richer, the new interfaces more adaptable, and the levels glimpsed in other footage look like they have capitalised on the atmosphere created in the first one.

As to the accent, it was constant mild Scottish burr throughout the first one, albeit with a different performer.

As its an FPS, what the character wears is of little importance to me.

I guess we'll know in a couple of weeks.
