During the installation, after putting in the second CD, a message pops up saying "Cannot copy E:\thief2\miss11.mis to D:\games\miss11.mis".
I went back to the store I got the game from and got a replacement copy. Still had the same problem. I opened up my computer and even cleaned the bloody laser head of my cd/dvd drive. Still had the same problem. I tried installing with the "E:\setup.exe -lgntforce" using the run box. No luck. I tried copying the CD to harddrive. It couldn't copy miss11.mis and some error came up. I have made sure nothing else is running during the installation each time. Didn't help. It is always a problem with the second CD. I'm using the the Windows XP home Platform. I don't understand why this game won't install. Any ideas? I'm getting really pissed off. |

It seems to me that your statement about copying to the hard drive, "I tried copying the CD to harddrive. It couldn't copy miss11.mis and some error came up." is a clue of sorts. It could mean that you have either a bad file on the CD rom or a bad CD-ROM reader. If I had a spare, I might try another CD-ROM drive. But then, maybe not. Read on for another possibility.
Something else does not ring true. You haven't said what is your intended install directory. It seems to me that using the directory D:\games as an install directory for thief2 is kind of strange in the naming sense (miss files go into the top level of the Thief installation). Do you have anything else stored in d:\games that could be interfering? Say another file, read only, called miss11.mis? Such a read-only file might appear there if you had previously copied the CD directly into D:\games before doing the install. Maybe you should delete the contents of the install directory before installing anything into it. In any case, I would use a different name for the install directory. I might use D:\games\thief2. Or better yet, take the default and see what happens then. FYI, I install mine in C:\thief2. Last edited by Peter Smith; 10-01-2005 at 12:07 AM. |

Have you tried the My Computer, *CD*, Explore to see if your computer or CD player can read the disc.
If you can't then either the CD player is on the way out, or the disc is damaged. If it seems so, do the same on another computer (friend or local computer store with demo systems) If the disc files show up on that machine then it is your CD player/burner. |

Damn, sorry about that. The I copied the message wrong, the intended was d:\games\thief2, i deleted the directory on every install attempt. Funnily enough I can actually go through my computer "explore" the CD. I thought the CD was bad, but then i did get a replacement copy. I thought it maybe the CD/Dvd drive, but it seems to read my other Cd's okay. |
