Save game (Xbox) - Finish level?

Is it true that in order to save one's progress you have to complete a level?

And to "complete" a level you have to find all 10 of those white things?

The game autosaves after you complete a level that is get to the end of it, and load the next level or choose to go back to dexter's diner.

You can also save by purchasing something at the diner.
