Smile New FM - The Greyfeather Gems part II: Rodamill

Hello everyone!

I'm pleased to announce that The Greyfeather Gems part II: Rodamill is finally ready for release. You can download the mission from thiefmissions.com (thanks Jason!).

I'd like to thank quite a few people for all their much appreciated help.
  • Mazur helped out with several technical issues.
  • Rustibus gave input on the original idea that evolved into the Greyfeather series and alpha-tested this mission.
  • Schatten/Voidshaper made some reeeeeally cool ambients and beta-tested as well.
  • Vigil did a whole bunch of things: those lovely textures, proofreading and rewriting texts, plenty of ideas and suggestions, alpha-testing and most important of all, criticized all and anything in need of improvement, no matter how small an issue it may have seemed like. Especially appreciated is the fact that he didn't complain once about my Dromeding at odd hours.
  • Finally, a big thankyou to the beta-testers for their comments and suggestions: Fingernail, marycwmbach, Musopticon?, pnowak, Silent_Warrior, SlyFoxx and TF.

Now I think it's time I relaxed by having a glass of wine and by doing nothing even remotely Dromed-related for a while. I hope you enjoy the mission as much as I'll enjoy my wine.

I've been playing this for awhile and I can highly recommend it. It's wonderfully atmospheric, has a nice story, beautiful textures and great music. One you definitely don't want to miss!

Excellent mission!

Visually it is already stunning, and even on an ATI card the fog looks fine. The decay of the town is believably well done, and the attention to detail is remarkable, especially for such a large mission.

I like how it's left to the player in what time they finish the mission. At my first run through it took me about 1 1/2 hours to complete the mission, but I ended up with only half of the loot and one secret found.
I then went back into the town (past the Monstar!) and searched every inch for loot and secrets/additional objectives. Not many missions make me want to find all the loot, but TGG2 is one of them. I've found all the secrets (for the last three I needed a little shove into the right direction from the thread at TTLG), and currently I'm just 110 short of the loot total.
I did my more thorough search in several sessions, and each time I discovered an area I had totally missed before. This mission is a paradise for explorers and roofclimbers as well.

As for criticisms, there's only very minor things to find, and I can't even remember them. There were some high spots where I bumped into the invisible ceiling of the mission (e.g. roof of miners' lodge), but that's it.

Don't let us wait too long for part 3

Thanks for the replies, all!

Esh - It's so cool getting a reply like that from one of my favorite dromeders. It seems the mission turned out to be what I had in mind at the start and I'm very happy about that. A big thanks goes to Vigil for making the perfect textures for this mission (among other things), making the look just right.

Those places where you reach the invisible ceiling are an annoyance to me too, but when I tried to make the space higher the mission died.

I'm on holiday right now, but when I get back home I'll get started on a lootlist. As for part 3, well, I won't make any promises about 'when', but at least it's definitely a 'when' and not an 'if'.

This indeed is a great mission; the story coupled with the visuals creates something very genuine. Astonishingly, Morrgan has managed to make a dreading, atmospheric FM without an abundance of undead.
