I got to meet Scotty at a video store when he came to my home town of Tracy, CA when I was about 7 years old in 1991 I think. I got to sit on his lap and eat pizza with him, I got an autographed picture of me and my sister sitting on his lap. Rest in Piece Mr. Doohan. Tell Bones we all said Hi!

This is very sad news, indeed.

May his adventure be just beginning.

Scotty has always been an icon for Star Trek. Memories of him always make me smile, and I can hear his voice complaining that there isn't enough power.

    "Scotty", you are well remembered!

    "Here's to ya, lad"
I got to meet Mr. Doohan around ten or twelve years ago or so at the Dewar's Bagpipe Festival at the Knitting Factory in NYC. It was a friend of mine
who runs a promotions company who arranged the festival and got Scotty to MC the first of two nights.
Well, we got to sit around drinking free scotch with Mr. Doohan all night.
He was so plastered, he actually turned into Scotty before our eyes.
When it came time for him to introduce the first band, he came up onstage, and said in that famous brogue - "No mur scotch fer Doo'an".
About three and a half years ago (and after his stroke) Brooklyn Gal and I saw him at a convention in New York. He was in a wheelchair and signing
things very slowly, and barely looking up at people.
When we got to the table, I said "I was at the Bagpipe Festival".
He looked up, his eyes went wide, he gave a huge grin and said -
"We're still finishing off the free scotch we got that night!"
    Godspeed Chief!

Good old Scotty, always one of my favorite Star Trek characters.

In addition to being an interstellar hero, he was a real life Canadian war hero, being wounded on Juno Beach on D-Day- Biography of James Doohan

Just read this in the article:
At 19, James escaped the turmoil at home by joining the Canadian army, becoming a lieutenant in artillery. He was among the Canadian forces that landed on Juno Beach on D-Day. "The sea was rough," he recalled. "We were more afraid of drowning than the Germans."

The Canadians crossed a minefield laid for tanks; the soldiers weren't heavy enough to detonate the bombs. At 11:30 that night, he was machine-gunned, taking six hits: one that took off his middle right finger (he managed to hide the missing finger on the screen), four in his leg and one in the chest. Fortunately the chest bullet was stopped by his silver cigarette case.
Wow, didnt know he was a veteran. He was a real life hero as well.

What a true hero! No wonder he came across so sincere in his role as Scotty!

I believe it is at his request that his ashes are to be placed in a rocket and sent into space; seems so fitting and yet so sad
