Lightbulb BO1 FINAL PATCH (Version 1.2)

Hiya Peeps,

CubanRaul and I have been collaborating for a while now on finalising an up-to-date patch for BO1. There wasn't anything wrong with the original one he designed initially, but I had been keen for a while to progress further on something a little more intelligble for both the KAIN.EXE and to update some areas of the patcher utility.

Check the site out: - (http://home.comcast.net/~heavyweight...kain/index.htm)

I think I speak for both of us when we say that this is probably the final version of the patch for BO1. Its hard enough trying to modify a game to make it perform functions in a way we want to, but to actually debug the game to eliminate certain problems altogether would take far longer (take a look at the BO1 Game Credits, this will give you some idea ).

CubanRaul was a little pessimistic about doing an update seeing as he developed the first one as far as it could take him to begin with. I wanted to take it the extra mile, so I did a fair bit of homework which seems to have paid off very successfully.

NOTE: It is likely but not 100% certain that if Patch 1.1 didnt work for you, this is unlikely either, however, based on the unique changes made, both CubanRaul and I believe this is a better all rounder and should work for 95% if not a higher percentage of people with the game.

NOTE #2: This patch will not fix the speed up slow down issue in the game, that is a CPU dependent issue which can be altered by either using software to manipulate the speed of your processor or you can simply use a lower spec PC.

NOTE #3: No matter how you configure your Windows based PC, and regardless of what file system you have (NTFS, FAT32/FAT16) this installer will no longer give you any problematic issues with it. You can install this on any Windows based operating system and have no compatibility issues provided you meet at least minimum hardware spec which I doubt anyone will have issues with. This was already the case with version 1.1, I just wanted to reiterate it .

Also, the fact that some people have keyboard issues where by they cant control Kain is not fixed in this patch either. The main areas that have been focused on is the EXE itself and the ease of use with the patcher utility. Again, take a look at CR's site to see what changes have been made to make life easier .

PEACE OUT !!!

PS: This thread was originally posted on January 20th 2005 but had been lost in the ether when the Eidos forums were updated. Fortuntately I had a copy that was in a chat log file that he and I had via MSN. Ahh... the joys of technology .

are you aware of the case where the game is frozen after the FMV is shown in the Cave of the Oracle, or during the fight with Azimuth and that other guy (two bosses in the same area, SO sorry i do not even know their names, ive only finished it once due to this problem).
When the FMV's stop, the game lightens up from a low brightness and reaches a normal brightness to resume gameplay, that was done for visual purposes. When the game freezes like this, the screen never gets to brighten up.
i have been TOO specific i know, but i wanted to make sure this particular freezing problem was explained very well to prevent confusion from other problems.

is that fixed after applying 1.2?

(i hate to say that ive made a new backup of the game just yesterday, the old one was scratched almost beyond read >_< )

I think I've had the same problem sometimes, when I pressed Alt+Tab and then opened the window again the game continued. I'm not sure if it's the same problem, but you could give it a try.

No, unfortunately. i do a trick to exit the game when its stuck, i have task manager loaded before i run BO:LOK and the cursor focused on KAIN.exe before its frozen. Once its frozen no other app can overlap KAIN.exe, not even manager. In other words, KAIN.exe is on top of any other app.

I know this one! Soul Reaver is the same when I'm working on cheat codes for the trainer programs. Hit the sleep button on the keyboard a couple of times then move the mouse a bit to wake things up again. That should take you to the windows log in screen where you can either shut down and restart the computer or if you try to log back in the log in screen might remain at the front but it will allow the the task manager to go in front of that.

EDIT: Idea! The game must be running to alt+tab out, meaning it's either stopped responding or crashed. However, I think an extra thread could be introduced to track when it's being alt+tabbed out of. I'm not sure about all of how to that yet, though.

ive been playing BO:LOK w/ the latest patch installed (1.02) and no freezing occured. Not after the Oracle, not after Dejule and Bane, which means it is probably fixed for good.
