Unhappy UT 2003 System Requierments

Unreal Tournements 2003 System Requierments are Pentium 1Ghz, 256mb ram, 32mb 3D Card and 3 GB disk Space . I do not play UT but DeusEx2 and Thief 3 are created on the same engine and if UT 2k3 takes 3 Gb to install, then a game like DeusEx2 or Thief 3 may take 4 or 5 Gb.

That should be a happy face, not a frowny face. There comes a time, every 2-3 years I think, when computers should be upgraded. That is the price of admission to the hobby - $200 / year or so for upgrades. It has never been cheaper or better. The following are not necessarily recommended components, just an example of what might be done (prices at Newegg):

AMD Athlon XP 1700+/266 FSB Processor CPU - RETAIL - $76

MSI Motherboard for AMD Processors Model KT3 Ultra2(6380E-050) Retail - $79

CRUCIAL MICRON 256MB 32x64 PC 2700 DDR RAM - OEM - $87

WD WESTERN DIGITAL EIDE HARD DRIVE 40GB 7200RPM MODEL # WD400BB -CAVIAR OEM, DRIVE ONLY - $74

GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 4 Ti 4200, 3.5ns, 64MB DDR - $133

Total - $449

This might be three times as fast and 1/2 the price of your present rig. This is just the excuse you need to get a better computer. I would wait until the game comes out, though. Then the upgrade will be even faster and cheaper.

That's the recommended system, not the requirement. Mark Rein says the game is playable on lower-end systems, at a lower resolution and lower detail setting. I believe him.

Problem is, T3 and DX2 will be far less forgiving, with their newfangled lighting schemes and god knows what else they're adding

Oh well, time to upgrade anyways!

I have the system requierments to play UT. I am only worried about the disk space 3GB. What could there be in UT2k3 that takes 3GB. One map size must be more than 30mb, then not many would do FM's. The FM's must be very large to download.

Actually, the map files for UT2k3 are smaller than UT's. They are composed largely of a number of repeated prefabs ("static meshes"), which are stored separately from the maps. T3 and DX2 maps will likely be built the same way.
