I have a problem. Every time I load the savegame it waits for about 50 seconds, then it loads normally in 8 seconds. That ˝waiting˝ is really anoying. Can please somebody help me?
My system specs:
Pentium III-S 1650Mhz
GF FX 5900
768Mb of SDRAM
XP Pro SP2
I have the latest Nvidia graphic drivers 66.93 WHQL

Hey! I've got the same problem as you!
I've been browsing on a few forums and no one else seems to experience this.
What I get exactly with Thief - DS is this: when I travel to a new map or load a saved game, there is a 50-second interval when I see a frozen loading screen: no progression in the loading-bar. Then the loading screen changes (another tip appears) and the load lasts for a normal amount of time (around 10 seconds). The screen also brightens up.
The game launch too takes 50 seconds too long.
I have the same problem with Deus Ex - Invisible War, yet even worse: when I travel to a new map or load a game, I see the appropriate loading screen for the zone I'm going to, but without a tip, and without any progression in the bar. It's also a little dark and "low-res" somehow. This lasts for nearly three minutes (!!!), then my desktop appears for a brief while, then I see the loading screen again, with a tip, and the progression bar works. From then the loading lasts about 10 seconds. Here too the game launch takes three minutes too long.
I own the DVD version of both Thief - DS and Deus Ex - IW.
Win XP SP2
Amd Athlon 2400+
512 Mb RAM
Geforce 4 Ti 4800 Se 128 Mb VRAM (latest drivers installed)
HD 80 Go (60 Go free)
Creative Soundblaster PCI
I do not experience these problems with any other game.
I noticed that the HD works without interruption during the long interval before I get the "regular" loading-screen. It can't be normal however.
I tweaked with the default.ini to enlarge the cache from 1 to 16 Megs - no good (DX - IW won't even allow me to change the file).
I hope someone can answer us!

I figured it out!
I believe that you are using the antivirus NOD32, just like me (it's great, btw).
Before you launch your game you have to disable AMON and IMON from the Control Center (make sure you're offline because your protection is as good as gone from that point).
In case it's not clear here's the link:
Look into the "Technical Questions : Thief III : Deadly Shadows".
I just tried it, and it works, the load times are normal (15 seconds max).
I hope it will clear the issue for you!
