I got a microsoft USB optical wheel mouse and when ever i click down on any of the 3 buttons i lag for like half a second, when i unclick i lag again. holding the button down does not lag. scrolling the wheel does not lag either but pressing down on its button does. clicking even when a button is unbinded still lags.
i got version 1.2 of the game on windows XP service pack 2, radeon 8500 128MB with latest drivers, directx 9.0c, athlon XP 2500+, 512MB DDR 400 @ 333, asus a7n8x-e deluxe motherboard, sound blaster live 5.1 sound card. MouseLagThreshold=0 never had this problem before, only with this game. anyone know how to fix? |

It's not a mouse issue as my logitech ps/2 wheel mouse also does the same thing.

Hi,
I notice a number of people have posted on this problem, but I haven't seen a solution yet. I also have this exact same problem. Oddly enough (and this is odd), the common characteristic between all of the people having this problem (framerate drops to 1-2 a second for a few seconds after clicking any of the 3 mouse buttons but not scrolling the mouse-wheel, regardless of their actual command bindings) is that we all have ATI cards in the 8500-9500 range. It is partially an ATI driver problem. I have an ATI All in Wonder 8500 with the latest drivers and the game chugs, as I described. However, due to peculiar circumstances involving a return-to-last-good-configuration reboot I at one point ended up with an older version of ATI's drivers (unfortunately I don't know which version). The game worked great (speed wise) with these drivers. No problems with freezing or glitching at all! (Still ran a little slow at full settings, but that's to be expected). Tragically, the old problem with the mouse cursor disappearing in the menus appeared. When I re-upgraded to the latest ATI drivers the cursor reappeared, but the lag problem returned. I just upgraded again to the very latest and greatest (4.9 I think) and it didn't help. One last peculiar trait linking this problem with the video system. When I use DX:IW Tweaker 1.3.4 and change the UseManualRefreshRate to 'True' with a Manual Refresh Rate hz or 85 (which my card/monitor won't support, I think..), Deus Ex Invisible War launches in a window rather than full screen. I need to note that normally the problem does NOT exist when in the main menu (with the spinning logo). However, when the game launches in a window the problem appears in the main menu as well. Click the mouse anywhere and the logo Chugs for a few moments before continuing. I have played with my ATI settings and resolution and it doesn't seem to affect it. I hope this helps someone home in on this problem. Rumor has it that ATI promised their later drivers will target their 8500-9500 series of card a little more, but I'm not holding my breath. For one thing, by the time ATI gets around to doing so, I'll probaly have upgraded :/. (To an nVidia all in wonder! Hahaha. Who am I kidding?). Jon. |

When i first ran dx:iw i had version 4.7 of the ATI catalyst drivers and also had the same problem as the main menu spinning logo would lag when mouse clicking, that went away though when i updated to the lastest 4.8 drivers but still had the in game mouse clicking lag.
two very similar problems which one of them went away after updating to latest display drivers. this was all in full screen at 85hz, never tried the game in window mode. also never tried dx:iw tweaker. I believe it is some conspiracy against ATI as nvidia paid big bucks to have thier "the way its meant to be played" ad in the game.....uhhh....i didnt say that....
