I don't think so. I mean, what more could they do? He died in D2, his soul destroied. It's not like they can just say "oh turns up he's not dead after all".

Or maybe because the 3 lords were destroied, someone maybe ocupie their place and you'll have to destroi them....I think they might do that, if they are creating a d3 game...

If Diablo isn't even in the game, why would it be called Diablo 3?

These are the rumors what I've managed to scrape up from different forums and magazines:
It is confirmed that Diablo 3 will come, but for what I know they are concentrating on making SC: Ghost and WoWC. And Starcraft 2 is also promised to be released before Diablo 3.

Edit: I will not comment on how truthful I consider these rumors to be.

I seriously doubt there is going to be a Diablo 3, all the lose ends from Diablo 1 have been tied up and unless they came up with a really out there story there would be no game :S

I've had this debate so many times on Diablo chat. Blizzard will never make another Diablo as they've basicly said making Diablo 2 was hard enough and hard enough to manage. The only possible story that could be on Diablo 3 would be something about 2 of the lesser Evils that survived and what happens after the worldstone is destroyed but thats just not enough story and basicly, Blizzard are putting everything into Starcraft: Ghost (Which looks sucky btw) and they wouldn't have the time it would take to put together a massive game like Diablo 3. People would expect to much.

yeah and with the path 1.10 as one of the biggest if not the, ever made by blizzard and that took them so long time to make i dont think we should expect a new diablo game within the nearest future.. but the end of lod could lay up to a new game in the series...i meen the way tyrael speak of the destruction of the worldstone. something about it is the only way to ensure the world´s safety for now but he couldent fortell the future..

I'm sure they'll make another Diablo because it's a cash cow. Blizzard can survive until the end of time with its three franchises. I just hope that they make Starcraft 2 a lot cooler than Warcraft 3 was.

When Bill Roper left Blizzard, he commented he wants to play Diablo 3 someday, referring to Blizzard North, as two/three of its key personnel quit at the same time. Those resignations don't matter much to their future projects.
Plotwise, the two lesser Evils, Azmodant and Belial, Lord of Lies and Lord of Sin are still somewhere in the Burning Hells since they didn't make any appearance during D2. They're bound to cause more havoc in Sanctuary before the series finally ends, I guess. Speaking of future, the Barbarian smith in Act V mentions some possible future inventions to be made. I feel this is a vague hint of things to appear in Diablo 3.

Ya, but in D2 we only dstroy the soulstones and destroying these sotones will break thelink wich bound the demons souls to the "fisical" world, and releasing this srones and breaking the bound, the souls won't have any kind of suporte to stay in the 2fisical" world, so they return to hell and, maybe, in D3 we need to go to hell and destroy theyr souls forever.............. It's only an idea......

personally i'm not expecting much from Starcraft 2 if they ever make it, Starcraft 1 wasn't that good really, i played it right the way through and then Brood Wars but there was nothing captivating about it... But Warcraft 3 however was pretty cool =) I've just finished the game and i'm probably gonna start frozen north tonight but i honestly can't see Diablo 3 being made, despite the money it could make.

I think Belial was killed in Diablo Hellfire

hmm....

according to the second diablo book, there is always balance between darkness & light, it is impossible for neither to be the better, so maybe they'll use that for a storyline in D3?

-edit- garbagefanuk what r u talkin about? starcraft had a very good storyline, a classic story of.... well i forget but i heard from a really good book writer dude that he would have payed to watch starcraft in a movie theatre for its cinematics & story

I bet you just hate the graphics, well then you wouldnt last 2 seconds .... 50 years ago

There will be a Diablo 3. He promised to come back
http://www.blizzard.com/misc/xmas/index.shtml

Storywise, StarCraft is second only to Legacy of Kain And in Hellfire, that wasn't Belial. I believe his name was Na'Krul (or something like that). So Belial and Azmodan are currently fighting for control of Hell and the three prime evils aren't destroyed, only banished. Not to mention Tyrael may have accidentally destroyed the world...There's plenty they can do with Diablo 3. I haven't played WarCraft III yet (I think I will this winter), but it looks really good. StarCraft II, when it does come out (and it had better... ) will be really awesome if they pick up the story where it left off in BroodWar and they make the graphics to take full advantage of recent advances

They'll pick up the story in SC II from where Ghost will leave it.

Come on Diablo, the Starcraft story was so predictable using influences from tabletop games that were out years before it. Zerg are just Tyranids, Protoss are Eldar and Terrans are just the Imperium of Man. It was a terrible tale adapted from 40,000 Universe. Its nothing to do with the graphics. i still play Pong and Sonic the Hedghog 1?

I'll never figure some people.

Oh btw Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is out this month If you want a real strategy game using real races, there you go Eldar, Space Marines, Chaos Marines and the Orcs. Best races in the universe

Calm down, everyone. To each his own, right?

Are the StarCraft novels any good? I never bothered looking for them because I was busy.

Another interesting question would be why even Warhammer 40 000 isn't very original...I mean...who actually started the marines-shooting-big-bugs -thing? Starship Troopers (the novel) ?

Sure if Starship Troppers was out in 88 The honest truth is Warhammer can be directly assosiated with starting most things. It is the actual original inspiration for alot of things
