hey, 1. how do you destroy or disable or extingiush streetlights?
when im in stonemarket proper i am trying to leave the area by that gate, but there is a streetlight there and guards have attacked me for going into the light, 2. and on the abysmal gale, i cant find anyware to hide at all and the dagger wont kill the zombies so what can i do, and my holy water is scarce 3. and it seems like i cant getaway from enamies like guards when the spot me so what do i do then? it seems like i cant play the game for 2 second without something killing me, but i cant hide because of streetlights and if i hide in a small dark alley they still find me. its beyond frustrating. and i look for loot so i can buy healing vials but i cant even find that much anymore. |

Electric streetlights can't be put out, you just have to avoid them or rush through them. Torch lights can be put out by water arrows.
Zombies can be killed by holy water, fire arrows, and flashbombs. Of course a dagger won't work. Judging by your comments, I'd say Deadly Shadows is your first Thief game, right? |

Steal things. Go to fences. Sell your things to fences. You get money! Some fences won't accept some loot. For instance, the fence in The Docks will only take artwork. Black Market Bertha and Heartless Perry will take gems and metals. And NO, fences aren't the same as shops. In shops you buy things. In fences you sell them. I suggest getting off the abysmal gail (just go back to where you started and climb the ladder out), selling all your loot, and buying some stuff. Then return. |

You might start out by trying your hand at either T1 or T2 and get a much better feel for the game before you try running through T3. Your best bet is ALWAYS to stay in the shadows. Look for houses that have locks on them to pick, then go in and look for loot to steal. Look at fireplaces and torches for fire arrows. Look at leaking water pipes for water arrows. Try the game on easy level first, don't go straight for Expert level, reguardless of what you see people talking about in the forums. On easy level, the AI's have a much lower sensory level, and your damage resistance is much higher.

You should already have plenty of loot to sell from your previous missions, if you haven't solid it already. Go into the game menu, click Gear, then Loot, and see how much stuff you have to sell.

best way to kill the zombies is to sneak up behind, knife in the back, and while they are on the ground, flash bomb on their back... kills them everytime with just the use of one flashbomb... extremely cheap..
also, try crouching through the abysmal gale, you should find plenty of hiding spaces while crouched, it will take down some of your light metering on your crystal, and you won't make noise while walking. then when you are about to stab a zombie, stand up behind and knife em. jm |

okay, i saw your posts just got back from the game, now i have 2 flashbombs and i sold the loot from my missions already, i have 75 g now. and i raided a blacksmith, a tavern people and a house,
earlier, so what is left for me to do now, and i also killed a lotta undead and rustmites so my hammer statis is about 75% done, now i get a give when at 100% of the way, or when i kill all the mites? and what did you get for the pagen missions? anything useful? |

I'm not exactly following what your saying so forgive if i type something that you weren't asking for...
i'm assuming you are playing the missions on easy since you don't have very much loot from earlier missions... if you were plyaing them on harder settings, you would be forced to have more loot then you would need unless you are extremely loose with your use of goods... my tip would be for you... start the game over, but this time, think save save save all the stuff you have, only use your blackjack to knock people out, and only take out torches if you MUST. never use flash bombs unless you are killing zombies and don't use the fire arrows until the cradle mission if even then... remember, most people on this forum can get through these missions without even using a blackjack... so you can do it by using the minimal amounts of tools that you compile as you play through the missions. your a thief now, not a grunt, and as such, you have to realize that your resources are not the respawning kind, once you steal soemthing it might not ever come back again. hope that helps jm |

The problem wolfsbane seems to be highlighting is your smashing through a game that can be completed in very little time - but for most of us we strive to be unseen - strive to leave the scene undisturbed rather than using 30 arrows to take out ten guards - strive to clean loot a mansion.
In this respect we find ourselves with more money than we can handle - its not a contest to who can have the best stats - but at least try to be thief like. When I am cought usually by bad luck or rushing behind a guard who turns sharpley i always have flashbombs and spike them at the ground before he can draw his sword (99% of the time your still *unseen* in stats). To answer you directly rather than a thief lecture ![]() 1: cant - either find an alternate route, moss arrow the person who will catch you and prepare to run + hide or dash when his back is turned. 2: I disliked the absymal gale - I moved slowly and got very close with holy water basically aiming my head at them and released - I avoided most however. 3: As described above - in the rare case where you cant sneak past (with patience) or the rare case where things suddenly suprize you (180 degree turn out of pattern) Either moss arrow them in the face - or if JUST about caught flashbomb there feet (i say feet as I often lobbed flashbombs right over their head to start with )After the first 2 missions I had around 3000gold I believe - and this was with 83% loot on 2nd - sure it took me a while, but it was a learning experiance. Most people complete the game with over 10k gold - or they realise its pointless and buy full stocks of everything to complete missions faster. |

Not sure how you have so little loot. I force myself to find at least 80% on each mission and rob pedestrians in the city often.
I have more than I can spend and I am very liberal with the use of fire arrows, gas grenades and flash bombs. I am one mission from the cradle and have about 5000 in cash... |

i dont think you actually get any thing from getting your status to allied with either of the factions.
it just means that you can enter the "areas" that they hang out without them attacking you. they wont attack you on the street either so thats one less thing to try and avoid. |

Hi dark1. I think you get a present from Pagans when you've done shooting moss arrows at ALL corner stones. The same with Hammerites, they give you a present when you've killed all the rustmites.
I'm really surprised that you've got so little loot. Have you been an honest thief? There are so many things you can steal in your missions and in the city - cups, candlesticks, basically anything that shines. Like someone pointed out, you've got to sell your loot to a fence before you get real money and can buy stuff from shops. As a general tip, don't rush through the game, take your time through each level. You may not find shadows everywhere, but you can sneak past a guard in a bright area if his back is turned to you. So look at how guards walk, where they stand and in which direction do they look. |

hmmm, thats odd, because when i sneak behind a guard a guard al the way down the alley comes running....
and i keep killing all the roaches, i mean rustmites and they respawn in the same place, what, you thought i'd actually bother to chase em' down the entire city? uh-uh, i just shot one in the stonemarket proper alleyway every day. but im all the way on "allied" for hammers, so does that mean when i get to old quarter i get a present? i always wanted a hammer..... a black sleathy hammer..... an inviso-hammer would work better tho'.... and where is the special clocktower's loot??? |

i've not had respawning mites... far as I know, there are only 15 same with the moss tiles... at least that's what one of my load screen tips said... if you try to steal from them in their lairs, it just lowers your faction status... so if your looking for more loot, your gonna have to tackle the sunken city mission before proceeding to the abysmal gale jm |

I agreed with most about loot - being quite easy to 80%+ , but i'll agree clock tower is a git for loot - still havent found the
i've still gotta replay that mission - |

you need to explore all the missions more thoroughly i think, spend sometime and sight see alittle.
couple of tips: crouch often around enemies - little sound, less light wall flatten (forgot which key) and enemies will almost never notice u however close (just off touching u) stay calm if u get caught and just throw a flashbang and run back a room or so into darkness andddd theif isn't an FPS in normal sense, you're a thief not someone superhero with 10 different weapons. Sneak, ur usually not meant to be seen |

dark1: The time between your first post and last post so far is 7 hours. From your first post It appeared that you had just followed Keeper Artemus into the Keeper library and was given the ability to use the Keeper Glyphs with which you used to get onto the Abysmal Gayle.
Both of these missions are very complex with lots of books to read, loot to grab, characters to interact with or just listen to and avoid, and plenty of blackjacking or killing if that's your style. I believe most of us spend at least 7 hours on each mission. Actually, there are several side missions that you could complete in between these missions like landing yourself in jail from which you have to escape. Or there's the Pagan tree thing, there's also interaction with some of the locals to get loot...have you tried visiting your landlord? You also said that you can't get away from Guards, but I've found them very easy to run away from...just keep running until you go around a corner and find a shadow to hide in. If you can't keep ahead of the guards then you may be in crouch position and need to stand up or something. It also sounds like you have the light turned way up so nothing looks like it's in shadows to you...trust me, there are lots of areas where there's plenty of shadow. Plus, as a tip, if you must cross a well lit area then do so quickly and move to into the shadows as quickly as possible. Finally, I think you would enjoy the game more if you played it on Normal level. I've never played it on easy, but it sounds like it's not any fun. You can select the difficulty for every mission you start, but it always defaults to Normal. Hang in there, and spend more time in those areas...if you are KO'ing or killing all the guards, then you can explore at your leisure. It's not completing a mission that is the goal, but completing the mission without getting caught, and coming out with the most loot! Last edited by Rockn-Roll; 07-08-2004 at 08:28 PM. |

P.S. did anybody hear the pagans say this: "be a goodsie woodsie and comes out now" |
