Thumbs up Reason for buying PS2....EIDOS

Since the people at Eidos visit these forums sometimes I just want to say that EIDOS was the sole reason for me buying a PS2 all because of Soul Reaver 2. I've long been a fan of the series and in fact I think a owned this game months before actually buying the system. Sure, I'm pro Playstation anyway and I knew that other games would come out on the system that I would like, but EIDOS was the reason. They say that the Legacy of Kain series isn't that profitable but I sure hope they keep this series going. I even bet that the next game in the series will be on PS3 and that again will be my reason for buying that system also.

Same here.
Well, I didn't actually own SR2 before my PS2, like you did. But as soon as I heard about SR2, I ran to go buy a PS2. And if the next game is for PS3, that's when I'll run to go buy that too.

Thumbs up

Thanks for replying. It's funny really, how wrapped up in this series I am! I love video games, I have always loved video games, but it's so funny how my everyday life is about the Legacy of Kain series and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm talking wallpaper on my computer at work, home, screensavers, looking on Ebay every single day for rare stuff, posters, magazines, I even try to get all the demos that are released and I even went as far as buying a Sega Dreamcast (which wasn't a bad system at all), just so I could play Soul Reaver in 128 bit, etc... As much as I have always loved video games, no other has the same feeling like KAIN. I played a demo of Soul Reaver for PS1 and fell in love with this series and I remember Soul Reaver 2 was one of the first line of games for the PS2 and like I said I owned it for months before buying the system. Even though I started with Soul Reaver, I have went back and started with Blood Omen and replayed Soul Reaver 1 & 2 and I just finished Blood Omen 2 and am just starting Defiance and I love it, no gripes from me about this game not even about the camera, because what I think people need to understand is that all games are different and it might take a little time to get use to the controls of a game and how it works, this is the sole reason I only play one game at a time so I know and are familar with how it plays. Anyway these are all my opinions and I hope I didn't make anybody mad. I know that there is at least one more game it the works and I know all good things must come to an end but I will have to say that The Legacy of Kain series is the best story I've ever played, read, heard, whatever. and this is coming from a big movie/book/comic buff so I think that says alot.

The sole reason I got a Ps2 was for tekken tag. I played that game to death and still play its corpse. I could buy 10 Ps2s and would have still got my money's worth.

And that's BEFORE I get onto final fantasy 10 (which I've played just as much)

Soul reaver 2 can't top these 2 when there's a PC version too. (tho I have no love of PC games)

And you all know I'm going to buy a Ps3 the INSTANT tekken tag 2 is announced as a launch title

I actually bought my PS2 for The Two Towers (which I never completed because of the ridiculously difficult last level), but I'd been wanting a console for a while. Sitting hunched in front of the computer is murder on my back and makes my eyes worse. I'm lucky. The platform I chose is the easiest one to get all the LoK games for... which I did after playing Defiance.

I finally bought a PS2 for Defiance back when it was uncertain whether or not it would appear on PC, and I'd wanted to for some time. Once I had it, I then bought all of the other games on it (LOK, I mean) and they look somehow better running on it. Well, except BO2 which I have for Gamecube and which is one of the only versions without the strange voicing glitches.

PS2 is great to have for various other games and reasons now also. However, it was all because of LOK I have one, so yes, hope Eidos' staff at least can see this, as I know it's good to have some recognition You guys are awesome! Crystal Dynamics rocks! Amy Hennig! Her vision is engraved in stone! Even though she's not here anymore, must ad that if I am talking of LOK and its inspiration on me

well, then my friend you are a money waisting foll.

To buy a 150 (or at the time 250) dollar system for 1 above average Gaming company is just pointless. No Offence on Eidos, I love the games, expecailly the LOK series, but personally, I would thake a company like Konami, Square, Capcom, or Sony over Eidos. IMO Eidos ships one GREAT game every year, 2 if theyre lucky. This year it was Deus Ex and Thief, Last year it was LoK Defiance and Hitman 3. Thats like saying on Square's Account Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, and Star Ocean are thier Platnuim Tiltes, where does Sword of Mana and Drakengard, not to mention the other FFs, FFX2 and FFXI, fit in to?
I mean the last 3 Tomb Raiders were crap, i even OWN AoD and i havent installed it. The only reason i have it because i got it free with my sound card. Personaly, id take DefJam Vendeta over backyard wrestling, and id take Splinter Cell or MGS over Thief. yeah thief was good, but theres much better. I liked Deus Ex, but id take Halo or Unreal 2004 (but UT2K4 is a Multiplayer game so theres little bit of discustion there) over it.

I like Eidos, and its games but to buy a system soley for the games they make. At the time of SR2's release there were better games out there.

Very few gaming companies would convince me to buy a system for them alone. EA, Sony and Nintendo. Sony's great 1st party games like Gran Turismo and Sly 2. EA is just overwhelming. Thier Madden and SSX are 2 titles alone I would buy alone.

That is certainly your opinion, but there are a lot more games out there for use on the PS2, then say my old Gamecube. While that is a back-up for why it's not a waste of money, I'd say it's not a waste solely because of LOK's greatness. All of the other 50 bucks spent on a lot less meaningful games, and hardly any of them can compare, and none can that I've seen as a whole series, to LOK's greatness. I think it's money WELL spent, indeed.

You have no right to say this. He can spend his money on whatever he wants.

I got a gamecube for only a handful of games and am happy with my purchace (res evil, RE0, twin snakes and metroid are all I own so far).

If someone wants to spend THEIR money on a console for only 2 games then it's THEIR money. Not yours. I'm considering buying an xbox simply for the dead or alive games and the few other good games they have despite me not playing games much anymore.

My Ps2 has lots of games on and I think it's clearly the best console in the market. There's much more than LOK for it. Personally I don't play any other Eidos games since Tomb Raider went so far downhill. I own AOD because it was free with my dad's Ps2 (I say my dad's ps2 but my sister swiped it cos he never used it). And beleive it or not I feel CHEATED despite it being free. That was a truely terrible game. I hope CD redeem the series. TR1 is one of my fav games of all time and would love the series to return to its former glory.

Let's make sure that we're playing nice, please. Comments such as "then you are a money waisting (sic) fool" are highly inappropriate.

Thanks.

Back to the topic-at-hand:

I purchased a Dreamcast for Crazy Taxi and discovered it's one of my best consoles. Because of that, I picked up a few additional titles for it.

I'm purchasing my Xbox for Ninja Gaiden and Thief Deadly Shadows, and while I'm not exactly sure what games I want for the GameCube at this point, I will eventually purchase that just to have it. I will eventually build up both libraries for it, I'm sure.

I purchased my PS2 because I really enjoy Sony products. They have a good title line and the console is backwards compatible (which had huge appeal for me).

Eidos has some great products, as do other game publishers. Microsoft is finally getting around to widening their title variety (which hadn't appealed to me for the longest time, hence why I didn't make purchasing an Xbox a priority).

Personally, I rather enjoy being multi-platform. **shrugs**

I love my dreamcast and gamecube. I got my dreamcast really cheap and don't regret it at all despite never really having time for it. there were some awesome games on it.

I love my gamecube. The remake of resident evil is alone worth buying the console for. It's even better if you played the original version IMO. Metroid is also pretty incredible (but not really for me and my short attention span!) and there's the sequel to that now too. not to mention the infamous animal crossing that I have yet to sample.

Overall though the PS2 gets the most of my time. Mostly because I only play tekken tag nowadays but I'm about to dust off my gamecube to finally finish disc 2 of res evil 0.

Even though we may buy a console for one or two games, it's generally assumed that we'll play more games later on. Heck, if I hadn't gotten my PS2 I'd never even have known about LoK or all the other games I now own. In my opinion it's money better spent than the 50¢ I paid for a candy bar I didn't like.

The reason I bought a PS2 wasn't for any particular game. I went out to Wal-Mart the very first day it was released and stood in line for three hours just to get one. The reason I went through all this torment was for love. I bought it for my then betrothed as a Christmas gift. As I recall, there weren't any good games for the PS2 when it was initially released except Tekken Tag.
