I second the Viggo Mortensen suggestion. He would make an ideal Garret. We need a big name actor. I see lots of actors being suggested that are good supporting actors or are good at making "B" movies but aren't ready for the big time.

Uhhhm... What did you think Viggo was BEFORE LOtR? Nevertheless, he might make a 'passable' Garrett.

Why not Stephen Russel as some have stated? He certainly has the voice, he knows the gameworld and the history of Garret really well so he can really "live the role". Playing Garret doesn't necessarily need great acting talent (and big paychecks) as Garret is quiet and sticks to himself with as few "friends" and social contacts as possible.

I could see Tim Curry as Orland but I think that the film would be better off with truly unknown actors...

In the end, I think that Thief should just stay/ should have stayed where it began, on PC. Not consoles and expecially not on TV/movies

The actor should be good at playing a dark role. Oldman fits the bill but he is a little old.

I am thinking Nicolus Cage.

I think Bruce Campbell would be perfect. He's got the same attitude in most of his movies, hell, his voice almost sounds the same as Garrett... Definitely would get my vote.

Which Garrett we talking about?

If its the Thief 3 Garrett then it should be Arnold.

Thief 1 and 2: Me.

Why me you ask? Because only I know how to play Garrett, The way I see him.

Someone said why doesnt Garrett have a romantic relationships, Because he has a heart of Ice... Just like me..

Seriously though,

No one, could do it to par. Maybe a Blue Eyed Johnny Depp.

We all know Garrett has a blue eye.

Yea, Viggo wasn't a big name before LOTR. I am a huge Thief fan and think it is the best game ever but... It's not in the same league as J.R.R Tolkien and LOTR. The source material in LOTR can turn any good actor into a star. However, in my opinion, any movie based on Thief would require some star power. Viggo isn't in the same class as Johnny Depp but, I think Viggo could look and act like a Garret with very little work.

I'd like to nominate Guy Pearce (of Memento fame), has that soft and slightly gravelly voice required.

Also, would like to say that, Hugo Weaving would be perfect if his age and physical presence were more appropriate. He has the perfect world weary, sarcastic voice tone requried for the part.

I am Australian and have seen him in many more movies than just Lord of the Rings and The Matrix. Doubt you can get it, but if you can find a movie called "The Interview" I definitely recommend it, great performance from Hugo in that

Never thought of Hugo Weaving, and I agree with you he does have that weary sarcastic voice tone. :P

I was watching Pitch Black, Again. I noticed something, The actor that plays the bounty hunter Johns. This guy would be perfect, Picture him with a hood on, and he would be a spitting image of Garrett, Plus he kinda sounds like Stephen Russell, if he worked on the voice just a bit, He could be are man.

Edit: His Name is Cole Hauser

Here is a link to a photo, Try and picture him with a hood and mech eye.

Watch 50 First Dates and tell me Rob Schneider isn't perfect for this role. Look at his eye, his hair. Put him under a hood in a serious role and he could pull it off.

I'm going to have to agree with the Clive Owen suggestion...and the close second with Cole Hauser. Both would be perfect. Clive Owen (The Crow, Count of Monte Cristo and countless other great movies) would be my top choice. It's funny, as I've been writing my script for "Thief: The Dark Project" ever since "Metal Age" came out, I've always pictured Kiefer Sutherland as I wrote, just to make things easier. Not exactly my top choice of actor for it, but he has the element of the person you love to hate.

My vote: Clive Owen. . . for now.

On a different note, I think Alfonso Cuarón would be the perfect director for a Thief film. I saw the last Harry Potter movie, and while I have liked his previous works, I have to say I was highly impressed. The look and style from which he did The Prisoner of Azkaban would work very well with a Thief film.

Viggo Mortensen. He's got the looks, the build, and the voice. He's the total package all ready to go. Heck, just look at his first scenes in LOTR and he's not far off being Garrett; snuffing candles with his fingers and everything!

The reason he reminded you of Garrett is because you could barely see his face and couldn't hear his voice. Personally, once I seen his face and heard him talk all suggestions of playing Garrett went out the door.

Out of all the actors mentioned in this post. None of them appeal to me to play Garrett in a Thief movie. If there was to be a movie and they needed a good actor, get Stephen Russell to do it. I can't imagine a Thief world without his voice as a part of it. Sorry, guys!
