Default Are these changes possible?

I know some of these will have to wait for the modding tools, but which can be done?

- Make Garrett hold his dagger upside down instead of straight up?

- Have the "ready dagger" animation play when you approach an enemy crouching instead of just when you are standing upright?

- Change the sneak kill animation from a back stab to a throat slit? (this one is for the mod kit)

- Make arrows shoot straighter

- Make a "last used weapon" button so that you can switch from weapon to another with the touch of a button?

That's all I can think of for now,

rOoKe

I think the arrows are OK and realistic as they are now, besides that blue ***** coming from the tail. But perhaps some Quake-fraggers aren't used to use their Brains too much for aiming

1. If you have ever read books on blade combat, you would know that the correct way to hold a knife/dagger/stiletto is with the blade facing outwards. This prevents the attacker, or depending on the sittuation, defender, from grabbing your arm and gutting you with your own weapon. So point numero uno is moot. Garrett is holding the weapon the correct way.

2. Why? So you can poke him in the buttocks? The reason you would want to approach your enemy from behind is for a silent kill and you wouldn't achieve that by slashing the the backs of his knees or by carving out his butt...

3. The correct way to a silent and efficient kill is to grab the opponent from behind with one arm, covering his mouth so no sounds are produced and stabbing with a swift upwards motion into the region between the fourth and the fifth rib on the left side of the body so that the blade reaches the heart. Instand kill. A slit throat is messy and the victim takes a long time to die.

4. Arrows are fine. There is such a thing as trajectory. Even the newest modern automatic weapons have projectile trajectories, and that is what snipers have to compensete for on long distance shots.

5. No comment here. An intelligent proposition that will make life easier for a lot of Thieves. It really is annoying to be constantly scrolling from water arrows to the BJ and back.

An upwards stab at the base of the skull is another very effective way of backstabbing somone. The dagger pierces the base of the brain. Instant and silent death, with very little blood spilt.

1. It would look kind of cool, but then again, he turns the knife upside down right before attacking, so it's not such a big deal.

2. I think instead of that he should just swiftly stand up and stab/slit throat. Spliinter Cell did that, and it works pretty well.

3. Dash has a point, but then again, the dagger is not silent in this game so I think slitting throat would be cool... more violence=good!

4. I think just a different weapon would be better. Arrows are fine and all, but a crossbow would be much better. It's not like they didn't exist back then.

5. I wouldn't mind a button for last weapon used.

6. I think it should be possible to kill someone with any arrow... a noicemaker makes noice, but it's also an arrow, and I'm sure it would do some damage in real life... same goes for water and moss.

This probably isn't exactly what you're asking for, but I wanted to be sure you know:

You can use the number keys on your keyboard to switch directly to a particular weapon. For example, rather than scrolling through the weapon inventory all the time, I just hit 8 to ready a water arrow, then 1 to go to a blackjack, or 3 for a broadhead, etc. Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no key for putting weapons away, so I always end up hitting 1 (for blackjack) then using the mousewheel to scroll down to "unarmed."

Actually, 'tilde' (~), right beside the 1 key, is 'put all weapons away. I always select weapons using the number keys (I re-mapped them to be the same as Thief 1-2), it's great.

okay, let me rephrase this for Dash.

will these changes be possible for me, not so that they are completely "between fourth and fifth rib" anatomically correct and correspond with all of the worlds physics?

"1. If I ever read books on blade combat? What the hell?
I don't care if its correct or not, I wanted this for my own preference.

"2. Why? So you can poke him in the buttocks? The reason you would want to approach your enemy from behind is for a silent kill and you wouldn't achieve that by slashing the the backs of his knees or by carving out his butt... "

Why? Because in the majority of the game, I am crouching. so when I come across a guard, I dont have to stand up to stab him. Because it is easier.

"3. The correct way to a silent and efficient kill is to grab the opponent from behind with one arm, covering his mouth so no sounds are produced and stabbing with a swift upwards motion into the region between the fourth and the fifth rib on the left side of the body so that the blade reaches the heart. Instand kill. A slit throat is messy and the victim takes a long time to die."

K, I won't even go into this comment. I'm not trying to learn how to kill someone.

"4. Arrows are fine. There is such a thing as trajectory. Even the newest modern automatic weapons have projectile trajectories, and that is what snipers have to compensete for on long distance shots. "

I'm not trying to learn how to become an archer, I'm playing a game.

"5. No comment here. An intelligent proposition that will make life easier for a lot of Thieves. It really is annoying to be constantly scrolling from water arrows to the BJ and back."

Yea, see? you're starting to get it! its a game!

I know you posted all smart in the intention of contributing to the post, but it really didnt help me with anything.

thanks to everyone else for their comments,

oh yea and i have another change:

- make it so that any shot to an enemy torso or head is an instant kill. i understand the arms and legs, but hitting a guard in the heart with an arrow to have him run at me with a shaft sticking out of his chest is just ridiculous.

No, see, the point I was trying to make was that everything you mentioned in 1-4 is already done REALISTICALLY in the game. Especially considering the endless whining from persons better left unnamed about bringing more realism to the genre. If I were you I wouldn't hold my breath - for those changes to be implemented and editor has to be procured and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

And sorry if I sounded a little patronizing - that wasn't my intention.
