This mission is so scary the first time. It gets easier as you go. I actually thought the parts in the past were a little too easy. The staff didn't seem to be paying very good attention. This time I am going to do it on expert and see if it makes a difference.

Red face CREEPY to the extreme!

I played it from 12 am to 3 am (i would not recomend that to anyone). I did not plan it but it was the ambience of the level, not to many zombies, that got me. It was a good level - great job - eidos!

Thanks Myth. The one thing that was my worst enemy in that level was my own imagination. I had to hold very tight control over it or else I would scare myself to death expecting death to leap out of the shadows, sending shivers of antartic freeze down my spine.

Question whats the cradle mission

whats the cradle mission??

im only up to the bit where u talk to inspector drept after that old lady sent those statues at you

those statue guys were quite scary and those keeper assasins were damn scary too

the abysmal gale bit scared heaps whe ni first went into it, all those groans and weird noises and zombie "blargggh!!!!"s, i had to stop playing thief for a few days

got quite far in Deus Ex Invisible war, quite a good game, finally got back to the abysmal gale

Well, after you speak to Inspector Drept, go and see if you can find some info about an old lady. He'll give you some directions.

What follows is a breeze, basically. Just nip in, grab the document and pop out again and you're done.

Tip: do it in one sitting just before you go to bed.

IS there any other way to play Thief? Ok, that level was SCARY. My body wouldn't have been twitching anymore if they would have added more zombies. It would have BEEN a zombie. Hehe. The whole time I played I was expecting something to jump out at me. Ahhhhh!!!

The Cradle is Bad and Wrong.

Hopefully now the Editor's out we'll see a few more levels like it.

The Cradle mission wasn't really freaky, it was rather interesting, going through time and all, those patients kinda reminds me of Hannibal Lecter, lol. Kinda disappointed that nothin jumps out at you, and half the level was empty. But this is having played through Silent Hill 3 before, which will garantee you to ur pants Gotta get enough guts to beat Silent Hill 4 one of these days. . .

Well, I haven't played Silent Hill 4 yet. But in Silent hill 3, you play this teenage girl who is cursed and goes into an alternate world not by her choice, and she has to find out whats going on. In certain areas in the game, the world really really dark, you can only see where your flash light shines. The worst part is that unlike in Thief series, you can't hide nor are you an assasin type. The creatures in it are all really hideous. Plus unlike thief, the ENTIRE game makes you jumpy not just a level. You just gotta play it to see what i'm talkin about. It's definitely NOT a game for the feignt hearted.
Although I gotta admit the story line isn't as good compared to T3.

Don't get me started on Silent Hill 4...

I needed something scarey after finishing Thief DS, and got a copy of the SH4 demo to have a look.

It epitomised everything that's wrong with PC games at the moment: it was a straight up console port.

Lo-Res graphics
Long load times between each room
Awkward control/combat system
Dodgy fixed-point camera - no 1st-person view in many sections

...OK, it wasn't pleasant. It was a bit creepy, but PCs are different medium to consoles. You have a keyboard and more RAM in most for a start.

I hate it when devs do this - you wouldn't expect Carrier Command to have the same graphics and sound on the Amiga as on the Spectrum, would you?

PCs are different animals to consoles, and devs need to take this into account when converting games over.

It's a shame, because with better graphics, no between-room loads and a decent camera/control system Silent Hill 4 could have been a damned good game.

Silent Hill 3 was actually much better than SH 4 I think, part of the reason i haven't beatten SH 4 yet is because I don't really like it that much and that you beep travelling back to the same place. But Silent Hill 3 is still by far the freakiest game ever. SH3 actually was one of the first games to require DX9 video cards to play, the corse looking graphics is a feature rather than being low res, it gives it adds to the horror level.

There is this one part where you go into a pitch black hospital, with hideous nurses that sneak around and attack you. Just as you are thinking man this is too much . . . you go into the alternate reality (The demon's world so to speak) where the wall become like they are covered with millions of crawling red worms and even more hideous creatures. There is this one room in the hospital, (major spoiler) where if you go in you get locked in. There is a huge mirror where you first see your reflection, then you see the image of you in the reflection slowly change as if things are growing out of your body. Then the entire room becomes red and your reflection no longer moves with you and becomes very freaky looking. Don't remember how I got out of thou . . Anyway, my description sucked, you gotta see it to feel it.

I didnt think the Cradle mission was very scary, they went too "all out" on the sound effects etc. and the constant wailing and ghosty noses just didnt scare me, I blocked them out.

If they wanted it to be truely scary, they should have made the level almost totally scilent, appart from the odd banging door, or creaking floorboards, and they shouldnt have put in the ultra tough hydra things, they were just irritateing, not scary :P

The scariest bit was outside, when you are staring up at this huge, ominous black shape of a building. If the inside was as erily quiet and ominous as outside, then it would have scared me.

Unhappy yup totally freaked out!!!

I have had to turn it of for now plus the facts i was playing on it for 10 and a half hours..

Been reading a few of these posts im so glad i am not the only one lol
the attic yeah it scared the sh1t me but i didnt run i just opened the door ran in shooting arrows and to my surprise nothing to be seen so i looked behind the door still nothing thought hmmm o well saw the picture walked over garrett speaks of the elders girl person thing see the rack walk over *HOLY SH1T* i yelped as this bloody girl starts talking but after i calmed down i felt kinda releaved *phew im not alone i thought, its just a girl* anyway somthing about blood blar blar she finished got the fuse and went back to basment did that so the storm cell opens or whatever!
"BTW also glad i am not the only one that thought that the chair at the top of the stair case was going to come flying to wards me/garret"
Anyway in to the storm place towards the "staff tower*or whatever when BOOMM the bloody girl speaks again i mean as if creeping around expecting somthing isnt enough but she has to speak from nowhere.
So i head for the inner cradle save game cause i had a feeling somthing on other side surly enough read the book on the desk head up some stair and get chased by a freak with a head rack which i presume are the puppets so it takes me 5 fire arrows and a flash bomb to get him down steal the loot and head back down the stairs and see one leave the lobby well that was it for me nearly 11 hours later 1am in morning i couldnt take it anymore save game xbox off and came to see every ones opinion.

And now there seems to be a thunder storm heading for town so if the power goes out it will be "maaaam can i sleep in your room" lol

Just be sure you don't make the same mistake I did: if you back stab a zombie, don't think you've killed them.

Yeah, don't backstab the quivering dead guys.

But if you wanna have some fun with them, chuck a bottle of oil in their path and watch the action. Near stairs is good.

Oh man, I remember this game was so fun the first time I played it, especially the Cradle. Awesome level. Wish my PC could run it.

Sorry to hear your system can't run it. The requirments aren't too high by today's standards so get out there & buy a new video card!

I wish there was a clever way to avoid doing the GHOST CHORES like there was in Cathedral...I'm starting the game again and I really don't want to re-play Cradle...

I replayed it recently and had the same feelings before I got started. It's not as bad the second time through; just play while the sun is still up.
