I played the demo and found it quite cool, I didn't have a problem with the graphics... they aren't the best to be sure but I like the style, the lighting is incredible (not to mention the sound)... and the gameplay was cool despite the relative smallness of the map. Great AI too. I got the impression that it certainly felt like Thief.
But my question is this: Is the full game worth my $45? For me immersiveness comes absolutely first in a thief game, I don't like scary movies but I do like an element of fear in games, it makes it soooo much more fun. Oh and how is the City stuff? Is it cool? How annoying are the loading zones+climbing gloves+smaller maps? 3rd person isnt a problem for me, I'm able to excert the self-control to not use it except for SS =). In the end... is it immersive+fun? |

Is it immersive and fun? Yes, I'd have to say absolutely. The only problems I have with the game are a few art and graphics issues. The gameplay is fantastic though.
And you say you like scary games? Just wait until later in the game. I don't scare that easily, but at about 2am I finally had to turn a light on as my nerves were shot and I couldn't stand the dark any longer. If someone would have knocked on my door I would have had a heartattack. I'd say overall the city is pretty cool. It can be a bit annoying at times too and the load times are a pain if you don't have a fast HD, but it doesn't ruin the game or anything. I'd recommend getting it. |

Quote:
1) Thief Gold (Thief I with 3 extra missions) at $8.75, 2) Thief II at $7.00 (both at Amazon.com) 3) Make a small $16 donation to The Keep of Metal and Gold and get a DVD full of hundreds of fan missions. Many of those fms are equal if not better than the original missions. All for less than $45. Now that's a much better deal than Thief DS. Then after playing all that.... come back in a year. Haha, it will take you at least a year to play all that......and then buy Thief DS at some lower price with either an Eidos or fan made patch available. Seriously. |

Although I had a great time playing the game the fact that there is virtually no replay value, thanks largely in part to there being no editing tools, will likely lead me to sell it off promptly on ebay. There is no need for me hanging on to it any longer I suppose.
I'd say wait a couple of weeks and pick one up used off ebay or amazon. |

] I think you answered youe own question. If you like the demo, then go and buy the game. It is worth 39.95$ I think you will find it at that price almost everywhere Sean |

yeah man, you should get it.
It's much longer than DX2 so don't worry about that. I just got to the 8th mission and i've played it for a lot longer than DX2. Its awesome and the levels get better as the game goes on i hear. |

If you're a die-hard Thief fan, wait a few weeks and buy it used off of Ebay or Amazon, and you might feel fulfilled. It's a fun game, but it likely won't live up to your expectations. I'd say it's worth $20-30, but not $40.
The City isn't as immersive as they hyped it up to be, due to Xbox requiring small zones. There's only 3-4 places to rob in each area. Most of the houses in the City are closed off with bars. Climbing gloves aren't so bad, especially since the rope arrows wouldn't really fit in such a small game environment. The load times are fine for me (though I have a good system), and the small areas aren't so bad. My major complaint is with the lack of immersiveness. If you buy it used, I think you'll feel much more fulfilled. G'luck! Last edited by Stalin; 05-31-2004 at 04:04 PM. |

Yes, it's worth it. And it's defintely immersive & fun. It's Thief.
But undected is actually kinda right heh. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck by buying Thief Gold, Thief 2, and the 1st DVD from Keep of Metal and Gold (of course you can download all the stuff on that DVD for free...I did, and I'm on dial-up). As long as you don't mind the more primitive lighting/shadows, graphics and AI. Ah, just buy them all. |

Yup, Die Hard Thief Fans, get it whenever you can... but if you saw a review for it and some screenshots and it "looked cool" and the demo gave you goosebumps, dont bother.
The games good, but its just a Dues Ex 2: Thief sadly. Ion Storm is so cheap. |
