Unhappy Hidden Garden Help

I just started playing this level & already need help.

As the level starts, I've tried to explore 3 different areas to no avail.

1) I found a cave in the far right, got past the boulder/lava, climbed some stairs, which led to a dead-end room.

2) I went down the stairs from the main area to a lava-covered area underground (fly-by scene trigerred), but did not get too far before getting burned.

3) I dropped down to an area on the far left, where there is more locked doors & gates, but that also seems to be a dead end.

So, which direction should I proceed in?
The hosting site (www.tr-online.com) says something (very brief) about the trees in this main open area. And I can see the monkeys dancing up there. But I have looked & jumped around & I cannot find a way to get up there.

Could someone please help on this?
Maybe after I get used to the gameplay of this level, I'll pick up the rest a little easier.

Thanks

The main objective in the first level, is to collect two tridents.

In the room past the boulder, where you climb up a ladder, did you notice a door? There's a pressure pad, which is most of the middle of the room, that closes the door, so don't go through the middle of the room, and it'll stay open! Getting through this door will help you to get into the trees.

Cool

Thank you Aquarius. I'll try that right now.

I was losing my mind with this. I thought you could climb the trees from the ground level.

I pulled the lever upstairs, killed the first monster/dragon, & got the first trident. Also got a couple of pickups on 2 trees.

Now i'm guessing the second trident is in the underground lava area. When you step in this area, the fly-by shows you the trident down there.

After a few tries, I managed to drop down there safely by backflipping to safe ledge.

But now I'm trying to jump to a higher ledge on the left (it seems like that's what the fly-by showed me), & I just keep falling on the lava.

Am I on the right track, or is there another way to that second trident?

Thanks again.

I can't remember the exact way to get the second trident, it just involves quite a bit of jumping and experimenting to get to the room. But I think you need to get to a crawlspace, and work your way around to get to the trident.

The left side is a doable trap! A difficult jump that's possible, but even if you reach the trident pedestal from here, you'd never get out of this lava room anymore. From where you found this flat spot, try a jump behind you first (a hidden passage for a switch). Then go out and jump over the first central slope and slide and jump to the opposite side. Now a passage (crawlspace) to get to a switch that opens a gate to the trident. Now you can go out afterwards via a ladder.

Thanks Drew, I did exactly what I was NOT supposed to. I fell right into the "doable trap" that you mentioned.

So now I have to load a prior savegame & do it again the other way.

I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.

Alright, I got both of the tridents & made it back to the surface.

Thank you guys.

Now what? Should I go into the sunken temple area?
I was there before & it didn't seem like there was any place to use those tridents.

Tridents are for an uppermost poseidon room later (holler again if you cannot figure out the way up) I suggest you explore the sunken garden now. Been there? Got the crossbow?

Drew, I went to the sunken garden area. There is 2 closed giant doors toward the left of this area, one on the ground level & one on an upper level.

All the way at the bottom, but to the right, a small area with another fountain is now open. I went in there, swam down thru a small corridor, & picked up something there (not sure what it was, I think it was arrows or something). But there was nothing else to do in there.

Back out in the sunken garden area, I went into a small hallway with a lever. I pulled it, & this opended up another door outside, which led to a closed double door (overlooking a checkerboard floor room).

I also used the ramp outside to jump to the upper level in this area. Here I see an entrance to a room, but it is "guarded" by fire burners.

Other than that, I cannot find anything else to do in this area.
Any hints will be greatly appreciated.

Try exploring up in the trees. You'll find a way (eventually) to get to the Poseidon room.

Made it to the Poseidon room, use the 2 tridents, flooded the valley (which opened the big gates now under water), & killed the 2 beasts.

I can also see the 5 switches behind bars. Is that for later on?

In the now flooded area, I also found an underwater passage that takes me to another lava area, as well as ramps near the now flooded fountain that take me up to another big gate and a door (with 2 locks). But I have no keys for these either.

Should I explore the new lava area now, before proceeding?

Thanks.

Cool

I got into the new lava area (pulled a lever right before going in), dropped in, pulled another lever at the bottom, & made my way up to a pedestal with a gem stone.

Questions:

1) I noticed an unlit torch on the floor (near the gem). Am I supposed to bring it with me, & if so, to where?

2) I noticed what seem to be the laser sight downstairs, but it's behind closed bars. How do I get to it?

3) Since I slid down into this area, am I supposed to get back out the same way I came in, or is there another way?

Thanks for all your help folks.
I could not do this without it.

Ooh, do I get a chance to help others out. I got so stuck in some places in HG, but it is all well worth the head-scratching effort! You found a torch right? Well, use it, and then that laser sight will be yours. Did you get the crossbow? It is easy to miss, and not an essential pick up in hidden garden.

Oh ok, I finally figured it out. You have to go up first without pulling the lever (so you may light up the torch), & then pull the lever & go up a second time to get the stone.

After that, I finally made it to the laser sight. Now I'm trying to get out of this area. I'm not sure how....

And weren't there 2 stones? Where could the other one be?

PS: I guess by the time I'm finished, this thread will be almost a walkthru by itself. I hope it will help others as well in the future.

Oh missed all the fun i see gec you're in good hands nonetheless.

The other gem is at the crossbow area (those two golden gates at the now underwater sunken garden. Search a small opening that'll bring you to the next gem.

I think you missed the torch here. You need not flood first the sunken garden so you can get it but it's too late. Not to worry --- you only need the crossbow and scope if you want to enter SG already. You may still get a revolver in another level though.

Actually, gameplay from hereon is quite non-linear. Where you wanna go is your choice. You may swim out to the EL even after flooding. Or if you wanna do all the tasks here --- getting the gems and throwing those 5 switches to open up doors, you may also do that. After every level, you'd be back here in HG anyway.

PS: oh btw, in case you haven't done it yet, to leave this lava area --- facing the entrance, there's a jumpable opening to the leftmost side. You'd slide back to a familiar corridor.

I don't know how to thank you Drew.

I got my laser sight (scope), made it out of the lava room, & got the second gem (how could anyone see that small opening up there?).

So I've now managed to open the underwater big gates (Emerald Lakes?), & the big gates near the start of the game using the scope (Serpentine Gorge?).

Now I'm off to try to figure out those 5 switches.
Any hints?

Thanks.

off to the underwater sunken garden again. Take the other golden gate (not the one leading to the crossbow). The one where you got some ammos earlier and prolly noticed the devastated floor you can't cross awhile back? You may now swim past through the broken floor and onward and upward.

Got it.

I went up there (which is really the other side of the Poseidon room), used the 2 gems, & threw the 5 switches.

The 2 remaining gates opened: the one way up high in the flooded area, & the one by the first lava area.
Are those "Obsidian Heights" & "Firewalk", respectively?

Anyway, was there a technique to these 5 switches?, 'cause anyway I threw them, the results were always the same (or at least it seemed that way).

Is there a special combination they need to be triggered, in order to prevent future problems?

Thanks.

YES and NO
These two gates are to OH and FW! And there's no combination for these levers...... only to the levels that some people having trouble going to OH right after HG like Drew ! I finish in this order: HG, EL, FW, OH and SG.
That's it........
