I just started replaying Chrono Cross last night and after all this time, I still can't get over what a good game this is.
From reading other threads where this title has been mentioned, I've come to realize that a few of us are fans of this series and I'm curious as to what your favorite aspects of these games are. I'll get more involved with the discussion after a few opinions are shared. Much obliged. ![]() |

Um...one of the greatest disappointments in my videogaming life
Chrono Trigger was an awesome game, truly one of the best RPG's of all time, better even than any Final Fantasy on SNES. Chrono Cross was plain, slow, and uninteresting. The plot felt too much like a jumble, with great revelations around every corner... the characters were WAY too many and too many of them were completely useless. There was a handful of them vital to the storyline, and about 100+ with little to no personality. At least a few of these were useful in battle. The fighting system was OK, but I feel it received way too much praise when it actually introduced very little in terms of innovation. And it all was too slow, the lengthy cutscenes at the beginning of every fight and all. I loved the fact you could run from *any* fight, though. Brave move. The "dimension-shift" idea was cool but badly developed. In the end some things were confusing. Nothing like the time travelling in Trigger. In the end, I felt it was overhyped. Don't get me wrong - it's not a bad game, I'd give it a 7 out of 10, it's just that there were so many games that delivered so much more back then. And it doesn't come even close to CT. |

you just reminded me that i got chrono trigger on psx and i haven't played it yet! wee, gonna go play.
i forgot *almost* all of the story from both the games, but i plan on replaying them and getting things straight. i read a lot of things i didn't understand on some forums, and it got my attention. (Robo is FATE?) or smth like that. anyway, i really want to play Radical Dreamers too, but it's soooooooooooooooo borrriiiinnnnggggg in those battle parts. thanks a lot umah EDITs: just got epoch, and i'm on my way back to get revenge! i beat lavos to get an ending, and now i'm off for more! i love this gamegot the good ending, moving on to radical dreamers. funfunfun i can't believe how complicated and great this story is! take timetravel and multiple timelines, combine it with dimensional travel and well planned plot and you get a really confusing and great game! i just realized this! last time i played it, i didn't know half its story! this might actually come close to xenogears! Chrono Trigger's a blast! I just beat it today (hehe...Lavos got a royal beatdown...). I love the Playstation version the best, the cutscenes rock. Magus ended up being my favorite character, he's just so cool, and had an interesting backstory. I'm gonna go for some of the other endings now (maybe one with Magus?), and maybe take on that Black Omen dungeon I was too afraid to tackle ^^;;;
Anyways, back on topic...I absolutely love Chrono Trigger, and was actually thinking about playing Chrono Cross, but is it really boring? I can play almost any RPG as long as the story is good and battle system is acceptible. I wanted to know if it would be worth it to go out and track it down and buy. I mean, the story can't be THAT confusing, I can understand LoK and all, so that game shouldn't be a problem...right? Uhh...o.o??? |

OH IT CAN BE CONFUSING! the game rocks, i loved the story, even though i had no idea what was going on, and i love it even more now that i know. it's not boring at all, it keeps you wondering and wanting more. the battle system is very good and fun, and the gameplay is great. you might get lost through the large set of characters but it doesn't really matter which one you take (my party is Serge, Kid (renamed accordingly
) and the masked magician guy whose name i don't remember at the moment.the story is very complicated, as it doesn't present a lot of explanations or good facts, and you get lost through all the questions and why's. it's a good thing you get to see old characters, even if only in name.. i really suggest you play it. i'm taking a little break from playing but i'll be back to it soon..break, get it? CHRONO break...mahahahaaahahahah that's funny..

Ah chrono. #4 in my 5 fav series. 1 being MGS, 2 is FF, 3- zelda 5 metroid
I love it so much. Ive mastered that game to the fullest. the onbly games i think ive mastered over cross is Metal Gear Solid and FFVII (beat it in 9 hours. beat that record. also a file with everything handaquired, no GS or cheats. 100% perfect.... I Take great pride in my FFVII save files.) but seriously, Ive played that game so much. and still do. My party is always Serge-Glenn-Kid for the 1st part, the Lynx-Fargo- Karsh. The for the 3rd part its still ALWAYS Serge and Glenn, and i switch in Kid, Fargo, Karsh, and Sprigg (when i have Ozzy Flea and Slash Dollepleged) I also use Nikki if he was the one i recrueted in Viper Manor. BTW, the one time i helped kid, which made glenn unavailible, i used Serge Fargo and Kid. I like fargo for some reason. he's got the awsome tech skills and always smokes a cigar after he uses them. Yee-argh! Ive gotten all endings, and gotten the 1st ening with serge alone several times. The only bad thing about chrono cross IMO was that you found Crono and co. died, and that at the last minute they changed Magus to Guile. In the earlier stages of the games, Guile was supposed to actually be magus, but swithced him, but still do "hidden" referances of that he might be Magus, just in Disguise. Though storywise (Spoilers ahead everyone), i was so convinced that the dragons were the good guys. I also loved the Masamune sidequest with Dario Karsh and Riddle. Chrono Trigger's a differant story. i beat it with most of the endings, but i havent gotten a copy for myself yet, so i havent played it that much, but it is a totally B----in' game. btw, can i do that? By the way Magus is the Single coolest videogame character ever. Follwed closely by Snake, then Samus. Kain and Raz fall somewhere in the lower 10's for those of you wondering why they arent in the top 5.

Before I begin any sort of rant... I'd like to agree with chrono cross being an excellent rpg. The combat is strange but it grows on me. The storyline is cool and overall it's really great.
That being said...I wish it were not affiliated with CT. They're both great but GAHAAAAAAAAAAAA you can travel through time in Chrono Trigger. You see the entire world at every major historical point throughout time. By carefully reshuffling the "time deck" you are able to avert a worldwide calamity caused by a galactic planet consuming parasite/engine of life and death. Thinking about it, It's almost a bit like LOK. The characters of Chrono Trigger are some of the greatest heroes that world will ever have to offer. They stop the end of the world, and what's more they don't even do it for themselves, they do it for future generations a century later. It is my firm belief that with the ability to travel time and space in such a complete fashion, you've seen everything there is to see. And the fact that
infuriates me. He could easily have seen that event coming way ahead of time and stopped it. The long forgotten power of magic courses through his veins! He and his friends stopped a fiend of apocalyptic proportions by themselves! The references to Ct were there in CC, but the entire world is different, all the areas are new. It's a different world when presumably with the power to move through time, I would have seen everything already. Especially considering how soon the game is supposed to take place after 999AD, I fail to see how such drastic changes could have been wrought. My suspension of disbelief gets a little shattered. bottom line. For a sequel to CT, I prefer it take place after the point of alteration 1999AD, so that we can see what the world would be like with no great calamity. And I wish CC were not related to events in CT, so that I wouldn't have any issues with it. sigh, oh well! Last edited by 4thSurvivor; 05-18-2004 at 06:01 PM. |

Sooo...Chrono Cross is a good game by itself...but a bad sequel to Chrono Trigger...hmmm... Maybe if I see it for cheap I'll get it. I was hoping for a now sequel-ish type thing, more than just a tie-in *shrugs*
Oh well. I have enough to do in Chrono Trigger still as it is, I have 10 more endings to unlock. I want to get all the extras too. I'm already busy with games as it is (I still have to try and beat Jak II along with playing CT, but it's a hard game). Thanks for the info though. ^_^ |

CC is a great sequel to CT! Chrono saved the world, Balthezar never died in the future (2300AD), he built NeoEpoch and travelled back in time. there, he built Chronopolis, and then the time crash occured, chronopolis and dinopolis (from an alternate timeline, as well as the second moon) were pulled back in time, where they waged war on eachother. dinopolis lost, dragonians extinct.
el nido triangle (absent in CT) is now being built, etc etc. lucca finds kid, lynx comes after some years and kidnappes lucca, burns her home (orphanage at that time) and kid escapes. chrono couldn't have seen his death because it never happened before the timecrash, besides Lynx is FATE's biological interface, so he's tough. you might want to see this site for a lot of good info. greatest chrono site EDIT: does anyone else think Harle is maddeningly cute? just look at that face http://www.ffextreme.com/cc/wpaper/03-1024.jpg Last edited by card; 05-19-2004 at 08:54 PM. |

Chrono cross is the biggest dissapointment in the history of videogames. There's a reason the UK release was canned. I spent a fortune importing the biggest piece of junk ever! I couldn't even play it after a few times on.
chrono TRIGGER however.....now THAT is a good game |

night wanna watch yer language there kiddo! you said the E word. might wanna read the TOU again.....
Chrono triger is far superior to all other games of its time. It was amazing and I still love it today. It's far better than the first 6 final fantasy games. One of those big games that really needs to be re-released with fancy new graphics on the gamecube (my fav console for remakes! )

now i agree that Chrono Trigger is a great game, but i wouldn't compare it to ff6 (not that it would lose). you can't compare great games like that..
besides i believe Emulators are legal as long as you have the real thing, and Roms too as long as you have the real game. now about the remake...i'd go for a no. they already had one for the psx and i believe that's enough. graphics and movies are nothing compared to the original. of course, that's my oppinion, and my oppinion is usually wrong..

Because you can still play PSX games on the backwards compatible PS2, it is not classified as being obsolete, and therefore not legal to emulate. I would also like to ask you to review Terms of Use of Our Community.as soon as it is convenient for you to do so as we've requested that such discussion, (regarding emulation and piracy) be kept off the boards. Thanks and happy posting.

I really wish this game would be ported to the GBA. They could port it perfectly and you could even play on your TV with a gameboy player on a gamecube!
sort of on topic, I just got star ocean a couple of weeks ago. Not had chance to play it much yet (due to getting pokemon leaf green at the same time) but it looks to be a really good game. The trailer for final fantasy 12 really had me drooling though. I hope kingdom hearts 2 get's his rear in gear. I'm just dying for that one! Last edited by fneh; 10-24-2004 at 02:12 PM. |

I started playing Chrono Cross a few days ago...
Ahhhh, so many characters, so many choices !!! I still do not know if was a good decision to go and save Kid, or I should have chosen not to save her in order to recruit Glenn. Btw, anyone noticed, that after beating up a squid, you get a new character called Razz(ly)??? |

Chronotrigger was a great game for a couple of reasons.
The multiple endings were nice and almost every time I played through I discovered something new. In fact the one thing I still haven't figured out is what happened to Schala? On several of the endings(if you have Magus in your group), he's asked if he's going to go look for her.Is it possible to find her(or at least what happened to her) via mini-quest? ChronoCross on the other hand..I kept losing interest probably due to the fact that I never came across anything that ties in with CT.The farthest I got before shelving it was the "save the poisoned girl(can't remember her name) quest. EDIT:Never mind on the Schala thing-I just checked the link posted earlier prepares to dust off Chrono Cross Last edited by Austrid; 03-04-2005 at 11:56 PM. |

Why do so many people seem to think the whole world changed in Chrono Cross? They make it obvious enough that they're in pretty little area, and even refer to Porre many times. Just look up "Archipelago" first and you'll see what El Nido is.
Chrono games rule! |
