Default Oi - another video lockup problem. Yay!

First time I've had to ask for tech support for a game in... ... ... ...
Umm. My entire life, I'd say. At 25 years old, that's kind of sad.

I'm using XPsp2 RC1 but this problem happened since I bought the game whenever the heck it was released....which means XPsp1 with no beta OS stuff.

I'm on a GFFX 5900, AthXP 2400+, nforce2 w/ APU (mobo w/ sound chip, for some of you) latest drivers on everything (video audio mouse keyboard Speedpad +soon monitor too) (56.64 video, 4.31 audio, etc) and the 1.2 patch

I get lockups trying to play this game....the entire system locks...
My temperatures are fine when I reboot, all my other games work fine...
But my screen goes almost blank...I get a single color screen full of dots (either red green or blue)

It sounds similar to an ATI problem i see some people have, but it's not reported on here and it's not quite the same so...

Umm WTF. I've been trying to play this game for 4 months now (in short spurts since obviously I haven't been able to)
___
suppose I can add this though I doubt it'll be of any use to anyone

Make sure your GFX is not overslocked. Pixel shaders HATE running overclocked and it can cause these corruuptions (does not matter how stable it claims to be)

Try the Win2K compatibility fix. Works wonders.

Also make sure you have AA and AF set to application from you driver

No luck...big surprise.

I don't call this a game...I call this freakin ridiculous. I'd give it away but the person I gave it to would probably shoot me.

I will make one more attempt, by doing a revert (fresh install) to SP1 and cleaning some things up to supportable levels on my puter...

But I certainly don't expect anything.

OK
well given what I know of Rise of Nations, a game showing the same issue (but not nearly as quick to show it)
this problem may have more to do with the sound engine than anything else

Actually, I'm told it may be my power supply. What a waste o money. I can't afford a new one.
