Default help with video please!!

ok bought dx2, installed it, tried to play in 640x480 Default... and i was like hey this looks like crap so i tried to turn up the pix and it gets choppy as all hell... it is really annoying and im very dissapointed...any help would be well umm...helpful!

a little background info....
amd 2600+ processor
512mb pc400 ram
Ati radeon 9200 graphix card (128mb)
also i updated the game to v1.2 and i also downloaded the latest driver for my card..

also all of my other games (soldier of fortune 2, rainbow six 3, deus ex, half life, mafia, wolfenstein) work flawlessly (*sp) at 1024 x 768 with all the details etc on high...

With that card, you'll have to turn off the shadows. It doesn't really have the grunt to display them at higher resolutions.

turned off shadows.. still runs like crap... . and how come all my other games can have the graphics cranked up but this one cant.. im so confused/irritated

Because no other games use a tenth of the power that can be provided by todays cards. This does, therefore you will take a huge hit on such a low level card.

I Didnt think mine was considered a low level card...
whats a good one considered in these crazy times??

I assume you're in the UK, where dabs.com has a 9800 pro for £181 incl. VAT. Alternatively, a 9600 Pro or XT would be a signficant step up from the 9200.

The 9200 uses the same technology as the old 8500s. The 9100 actually is a 8500, and the 9000 is the cheap 8500LE, so I'd imagine the 9200 is pretty much a slightly faster 8500 core. So that'd be why it's not living up to your expectations.
