I tried what you guys said. My wife is now thrilled that I spent 129 bucks on a video card. I told her that I could now take a picture of her with my camera, capture her remarkable beauty digitally, and display it proudly on my monitor to show all my friends when she's not around! And to do her justice, I would need the proper err, umm, video device. It would be an absolutely essential piece of equipment in order for people to see her gorgeous, dazzling, elegant face in all it's glory, just in case she's not home when they stop by. Anything less than a Radeon 9600 Pro 128 meg vid card would be an injustice to her by God! How she could even think that I would want it for selfish reasons is beyond me!! I also told her that there is a game (Black Hawk Down) that comes bundled with the card that I fully intend to throw out as soon as I recieve it. Who needs PC games when you can look at an image of your lovely bride on your desktop! (just in case she's not home).

Thanks for the comment ooh. You know, I think I took it up the keister again, (which is my own fault), as when I just looked at the invoice I found out that the card is the "lite" version. It says the core speed is 400 mhz, but memory speed is 500mhz where on a stock version the mem speed is 600mhz. Do you think I should send it back when it gets here, or keep it? I mean I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I've heard that "lite" versions aren't that great. I just want to be able to play DE IW again, and some newer games when they come out; HL 2, Theif, etc. Do you think this card will cut the mustard? I really appreciate all the help.

RADEON 9600 PRO Lite Edition Emerge
"A Taiwanese company that entered the graphics card market very recently has reportedly started to sell its graphics cards based on the RADEON 9600 PRO graphics processor with memory speeds lower than specified by ATI Technologies. Journalists from Clubic.com web-site already called such products as the RADEON 9600 PRO Lite. The graphics cards are made according to the RADEON 9600 PRO reference design, but cost 180 Euros instead of 230 Euros. A very annoying thing about these devices is that their VPU is clocked at 400MHz, just like ATI specified for the RADEON 9600 PRO, whereas memory of the solution works at 400MHz as well, just like specified for the RADEON 9600 (non-PRO). Such hybrid is faster than the latter, but is definitely slower than the original RADEON 9600 PRO. The problem is that they are for sale under the RADEON 9600 PRO brand-name and this misleads customers. We are trying to find out whether this is actully a lower-end edition of the RADEON 9600 PRO or a new version of the RADEON 9600. Stay tuned." You might want to send it back....but its up to you. What do you think? I know nothing at all about this stuff. This card was suggested to me by someone on another forum that told me it could probably play newer games at a decent cost. I should have known something was up, as I only paid 129 bucks for it and it came with the game as well. I tried to get the Sapphire on Newegg but they were out of stock. Thanks again.

well how is it performing? Try it in a couple of games and see how it is, and I wouldn't use DE2 as a benchmark, my 5700 Ultra doesn't handle it that well even though it does every other game.

I just ordered it yesterday but it was already shipped, so I'm trying to decide if I should send it back or keep it. I called the company I ordered it from, and they said there is a 1 year warranty, but if I want to send it back, the box needs to be unopened unless it is defective. Thanks again.

Im not really sure, its hard to find a review of it on the internet...
I would probably send it back to be on the safe side and try and find a normal pro for the same price (not much good I know sorry...) |

This is why ordering from Newegg is a good idea - the specs are right on the site. |

Well, the specs were there. I was just a fool for not looking at them close enough. My own fault. It just seems there are so many different model numbers and specs on each card that it makes it very confusing, not to mention 10 or 12 different companies putting out ATI chipsets as well. I think I'll just take a chance with the one I'm getting. I'm sick of the whole thing, although why the core speed is the same and the memory speed different, I don't know. I guess just to save a few bucks. Anyway, I made my bed and now have to sleep in it. But it does seem like kind of sneaky advertising to me as the box said 9600 Pro and that's what I thought I would be getting. I do appreciate all the help you guys have given me.

If its a 9600 Pro in ever respect except a 100MHz defecit on the memory I dont think the performance hit will be that bad. If its anything like the 5700 Ultra, there is the normal one thats at 475/906 and Gainward sell a Golden Sample 960, which is clocked at 600/1000 (I think) and the performance Increase is about 10-15% at most... and thats with a core increase aswell. My Stock ultra got 28,000 approx on Aquamark 3, and overclocked to 535/985 it got 30,000 when I had my XP2100 (XP2800 now) so we're not talking a lot.
So if it is the same in all but memory speed I dont think the performance hit should be too bad. Last edited by Darkhound_5678; 04-09-2004 at 02:42 AM. |
