Default response to catman

catman responded to a rather hostile thread with this:
"If you wish to state the problem clearly with information about your system specs and request help, that's fine.

Posting a message asking for help will receive a positive response.

Posting demands such as this end up in either locked or deleted threads."

look around catman! everyone is screaming for help... the technical boards are just slightly over a month old and people are still posting the same problems we were hearing about back then. However, we have heard little to no information on what will be fixed... whats being worked on... or how soon another patch is expected to be released. I whole heartily believe this game to be nothing more than a cop out sequel that was pushed into release WAY before it was ready. EVERY person who bought this game has a RIGHT to make demands. ESPECIALLY since the only thing they demand is a game that works.

can i get an amen before this gets locked?

Saying GIMME 1.3!!!!!! and listing your problems(without asking for help to get them fixed) isn't asking for help.

There are lots of "unanswered" questions that have already been answered except people refuse to read the sticky threads or use the search function.

Which part of 'we need this game to work' don't you understand? Yes, we all know there have been a couple of patches released - but these DO NOT solve the main issues facing most would-be players of the game. Namely, the damn thing won't run on well-specified machines.

1. Game loads as far as the menu screen.
2. Click on [Start Game].
3. Black screen of Death.

Right. Clear? Now can we have this fixed? PLEASE!

Nobody wants to rant on and on here... but it seems Eidos/Ion Storm are unwilling to give us at least some suggestion they might be aware of THIS problem and are working on a response.

Please STOP telling us all we just have to read the (endless) stickies on this forum to find the answers. The answers we need are NOT there for this problem. And this is the BIGGEST problem we all need solving.

Yes but I think the point is that it is only a tiny minority that have these issues so logic would dicatate it is caused by some problem with their system.

I have not experienced any of the issues you mention.. The only issues I have with the game are performance based.

I think you need to take a longer and more in depth look at your rig and I will bet that the problem lies there

Actually, you're not. There are only a tiny handful of peeps reporting the problems listed above. A tiny handful.

Therefore it is very unlikely to be the software itself

Assuming the individual has the latest drivers etc for a "Supported Graphics Card" then logic dictates that the problem should be solved by the Development team rather than the end user, on the assuption that other DX8/9 games work fine

Yes, but it does work fine on the vast majority

If the problem was as epidemic as you guys imply this board would be flooded.

Yes the game has problems (mostly with how good it is/n't) and it performs like a concussed seal in treacle at the best of times, but it flat out not working? I'll bet it is your machine. Either a particular set up which is incompatable, a driver it does not like, other software on the system, a given combination of several pieces of harware (sounds unlikely I know but it happens) or you have not made your daily sacrifice to the great god XP .

Point is there is no way even the best of programmers (ie not IS) can allow for and accomodate every eventuallity and set up. I am not saying you should not be allowed to play the game, but ranting at IS will not help. We in the community however might be able to

And again, *****ing about problems without providing solid information about your system, including the dxdiag data suggested in RedLegg's post, isn't going to get your problem solved.

DreamEndless, what you seem to be failing to realise is that the game simply 'working' isnt good enough. The game 'works' (if you can use that term) on my PC, but it runs like crap. Maybe if it had photo realistic graphics I could understand, but there's nothing to justify it, especially when better looking games like X2 and Far Cry run without problems.

Anyway since DXDiag seems to be the allmighty thing that will help the mods fix the games many issues here, have a read of this then tell me how to fix the crap framerates I get on the game plz:

Default DX diagnostics...

Asking for a Direct X Diagnostic seems to be sort of a cop-out to me. Between this game and Splinter Cell I have seen about 25 to 30 DX diags posted and I have seen absolutely ZERO solutions to problems solved via the DX diag info.

It's like all these gaming companies want us to believe that there is some magical, mystical quality found within the DX diag tool that will free us of all our problems. Like the bad bundled version of Splinter Cell - where EVERYONE who has it gets the exact same GPF error at the exact same point in the game EVERY time no matter what.

So what's the first thing they ask for? DX diag - ROFL

Obviously if everyone is having the exact same problem then it is not an issue with their individual setups or their cards/drivers.

I think basically people are getting frustrated because all this useless info is being asked for and posted so that the real problem - the bad port over from Xbox - can continue to be swept under the rug. It's like they think "maybe if we keep asking them for massive amounts of useless info they will eventually move on to something else and stop bugging us so we can work on DX3".

Well, unfortunately there will always be consumers that expect a quality product that works. And that works well.

I GAURANTEE that if PC games could still be returned after purchase this would not be a problem and there would be far fewer complaints on these boards.

These people have a right to be upset. This isn't North Korea, it's the United States of America. If we have issues with a product or service we have a right to voice our opinions. If the mods of these forums don't like it then they have the right to edit the comments or take down the forums.

THANK YOU for articulating exactly what I feel about all this. I am very upset at the general attitude from the Mods in particular. Those who have - luckily - got their game to run are also offering nothing other than smug, self-righteouness and a f*** you attitude to those of us left floundering.

ALL we want is a fix for what is - despite what we keep being repeatedly told - a worringly common problem for a lot of owners of this game.

We don't want to be told we're at fault, or our PC's (which run every other game just fine) are at fault. There should be no need whatsoever for all this had the game been coded fault-free.

Thank you again - from a British gamer - for your sensible and rational response. Pity Eidos/Ion Storm cannot seem to summon the same generosity of spirit.

If the mods here see something they dont like the just delete it. As one person said with regard to the game being rushed and in an atrocious state on release "Sad thing is they dont even have the balls to admit it" That thread was deleted, probably because it hit the nail right on the head. It IS about time the mods here and Eidos accepted its the game thats the problem and not peoples systems.

Catman: FYI here are my specs.

Alienware Aurora
AMD 3200+XP
1GB DDR Ram
Nvidia FX5950 256MB
120GB HD
Win XP Pro

Please refer to earlier posts in the thread as to why I refuse to go to the trouble of posting reams of meaningless DirX data. I have the very latest DirX for sound, graphics and windows XP Pro OS. Of this I am 100% certain as I spent most of Sunday afternoon downloading and installing all the required updates.

So, if my machine clearly exceeds the required specs for the game, how come it won't run?

I'm not trying to sound facetious, or sarcastic. But I haven't yet heard any explanation I can even begin to accept as plausible. Unless you know something I don't..?

The bottom line is if somebodys PC meets the minimum required specs and the game doesnt at least run, Eidos have stolen the money they paid for the game.

How about instead of being a bunch of childish smart-arses the mod team here actually attempts to do something about the problems people are having? This forum has to have the worst team I've ever seen.

I really cant wait to see the response to why an flamin ALIENWARE wont run it properly, considering it is nearly top of the line and configured by alienware specifically for gaming...

Because you have a hardware or software conflict.

What could it be exactly? Dunno yet, but the *** game runs fine (mostly) for me on 30 different hardware configs...so is it the game or something about your system?

counts on paws...let's see...30 other computers with wildly varying configs run it, but this one won't. I wonder why...

Hmmm...it might be something about your system...but that's just me...

That is completely incorrect...think about it for a second, and you'll realize I am right. But...you cannot prove anything to pure stupidity. So I won't.

...And what Forums do you Moderate? I'd be happy to take a look and give you my opinion...

If any of you actually want help, please do continue to post here, where we do try to help, or contact Eidos Tech Support. They will do their best to help as well.
