So I think I fall into the supported sysetm specs... so why is it that my framerate ingame, (even after trying all of the suggested tweaks on these boards) is sluggish and unplayable even at 640x480 , no multisample, 1x anisotropic, shadows off, lighting/character detail low, yada yada, still I get a framerate that usually resembles a slide show.

Do I have to file this game under unplayable for a year until I've built a next-generation PC or what?

Firstly, even ppl with 9800XT/5950U have complained about performances. Secondly, have you installed the latest patches?
Also, do you have Fraps? What's your average fps?

oh only tells fps... well i can tell u without that that my framerate in the game can never break 25f/sec... unless i look right at the floor.

All i ask for playability is a measly 30 fps minimum....considering I have the "recommended" specs, and I've cranked every possible setting down, and tried tweaking ini, every possible recommended fix, running in 640 res... still nowhere near playble makes me think either the minimum specs are a lie or I have something wrong thats makin this game run like a slug...by the amounts of similar posts ive now read in here, I'd say I bought another lemon...

Yep this game runs like a dog.

As you say, even if you turn all the details off and drop the res as low as it will go you will not se an apreceiable FPS increase.

Eidos/IS really dropped this ball....
