The whole "legacy of kain" story is predetermined.
What we saw in BO1, is a result of what happened in SR1, SR2 and Defiance... and a result of what is going to happen in the next game..... Whatever happens now.... has to fit with BO1 events.... The whole story is a circle... the whole "history changing" deal ocurring throughout SR1, 2 and defiance, is not changing BO1 story.... not at all... it is complementing it.... for example, the soul reaver.... how did young kain obtained the soul reaver? by the events that we are going to see in the next game.... How was the soul reaver created? by the events we saw in defiance. As you can see... history is not changing.... it repeats itself, over and over again... The changes made by the characters throughout the whole serie when they traveled in time... are integrated within nosgoth history... and that's the beauty of it... History IS a circle.... |

Uh... You still haven't proven that history is a circle. Just because certain events haven't totally changed (BO1 in this case) doesn't mean that you can neglect the fact that the parts in Defiance and maybe SR2 WERE a change in history.

I think they weren't. I mean, there are changes, but it is all within nosgoth history....
A good "traveling through time" story must end up being a circle... that's what I think. Otherwise, for all kain cares, he could throw the soul reaver to a lake to oblivion.... If you pay attention, in defiance, they try to make things fit, and no change has been made to events in BO1. Last edited by Protector_Malek; 01-05-2004 at 03:12 AM. |

I actually agree with Malek. I mean, Kain's quote pretty much says it all.
"We havent unwritten history, we've merely re-written it" Regardless of all the changes that Raziel and Kain have made, the line of history still comes to Kain's empire, the raising of the Lt's and Nosgoth's unredeemable future. A product of the past, can not change it in order to change its outcome. The person from the timeline in the future would be erased from existance, this would create a paradox because it does not allow for this being's existance in the first place, thus the events will never happen. I.E: Future Kain cannot kill his younger self because he would then not exist to in the future to go back in time and kill himself. |

exactly. But I think it goes beyond that. They are traveling in time, but the changes they are making.... lead to the events in Blood Omen 1 (for example, the soul reaver, or raziel unknowingly leading the sarafan to Janos' palace, and causing his death, etc)
