Red face Please - help stop the carnage

All right, I'm in the first secret in TR3 in London. Stuck up on a crane boom after collecting secret#1. I can't get off the crane, and back to the start of the level, without killing poor Lara. I jumped off the balance block toward the front of the crane, no luck. I tried to jump to building from the back of the crane - oh the bloody falls and screams. It is worse when you climb up on front of the crane and try and jump to the buildings, you slide into an abyss.

The walkthrough merely states that once back on the crane the return is "semi-obvious, slide back to the beginning of the level being careful to shimmy to the left." I have played many a level of TR and for the life of me I can't see the semi-obvious. I appear to be totally blind on this one. It is the first time I've asked for help. Kind of like your down to your last medpack; I need a little help this time.

I don't really know the answer (probably 'cause it was semi-obvious to me at the time LOL), but I can still remember the slide. Try sliding down (reversed so you're looking at the crane) and hold on at the end of the slide (otherwise you'll fall into some barb wire). Then shimmy to a safe spot (apparently to the left).

Hope it helps (although I doubt it)!

Yes I know where you mean - that bit is difficult. I remember the walkthrough too was useless as you say! If I remember rightly (and it's been awhile since I did this), you have to jump at an angle back to a ledge near the wall you originally jumped over to get to the crane. But when you jump, try jumping without grabbing, i.e. don't try to grab the ledge, as if you do this she does not make the jump. Just do a running jump and she should land just on the ledge.

Hope that helps, but as I say I have not done this one for a while.

Yes, but there is no place to jump from; that's the problem. You may attempt a jump from the back of the crane to the buildings, but it is too far. From the front of the crane, there is nowhere to jump from - the platform is totally enclosed.

It may just be that this is 'one of those jumps'. I had a problem with the first secret of "The River Ganges", where Lara had to make a jump in cave over the river that was too far. I persisted, and eventually made it - but what a pain. Hmmm...... TR3. I prefer guile to brutal persistence.

Hi Etruscan - Right I've just dug out TR3 and had a look.
No it's not from the end of the crane, go back to the cut out bit near where you jumped to the ladder to go down to the secret. Look across in that direction but slightly to the right and you will see a lit window - that is where you aim for - you have to jump at a diagonal and don't grab. There is a ledge and you run along and then it is easy to get back the way you came over the sloped roof.

Thanks Isis, for your time and trouble. I don't why I have I'm having such a problem with this one. I must have spent an hour up on that crane bouncing off roof tops. This is the first time I've come to a forum for help. Perhaps I'm just getting a little depressed by the maze in the London rain. I know the ledge your referring to, that's the one that appears to be too far. I see now it calls for bloody persistence.

I'll give a try again this evening. I'm on the other side of the world from you Isis - on the west coast of America. As I write this, it is already late in the evening in the UK where you are.

Well done! But if you have not got to the Navada Desert level yet, beware - there is another non-grab jump in that one too! Took me ages to figure that one out!

Default Help! I'm stuck in London (TR 3).

I am stuck in the Thames Wharf subcategory of London in TR 3. I have Lara in the area where there are large tanks of water. She emptied one to get to the other, then pushed a keypad, is supposed to monkey-swing back over to the other one. Problem is, BOTH tanks are empty of water! She has one of two choices: drop down and die in the tank she's at, or monkey-swing over to the hallway towards the other tank and drop down in there to her demise. Am I missing something? I hate the thought of starting this game over again, if it was something I did wrong.

You will have to be a little more spesific, there. I have finished TR3 2 years ago, I can hardly remember this part...

Default The water tanks in London

Yes Amy, you must consult Stella; without doubt a suberb guide to TR3. The switchs to fill the tanks are where you slid down the chute and killed a security gaurd - just as you enter the area, if memory serves me. I forget the exact details; my tank awareness seems a little low right about now. I'd have to replay the level to give a proper answer.

Not sure - wasn't there a tiny patch of water left in one tank for you to drop into? Through a hatch maybe?

It's been a long time since TR3 for me though.
