Question Play time?

So before I run out and buy this game..I want to make sure its worth 50$.

If a game lasts 40 hours plus then its worth 50$ to me ( as long as its also good). I have a feeling that with this game we are lucky if we see 15 hours ( not including replay value)?

if you pick up games quick, yeah, 15-20 is the average i hear...it's a simple game. I would just reinstall Deus Ex, the original, or go buy System Shock 2...

Well even a great game is hardly worth 50$ for 11 hours worth of play. This being a so-so game guess I will wait till its marked down "alot"!

I guess you can run through it in 11 hours, but I'm taking a much more leisurely approach; I'm just finishing up Cairo at the 8 hour mark, and I figure I'm about a third of the way through the game.

So from what you are saying, ..if I were to take my time and really enjoy the game I might get 24 hours (roughly) worth of play from it? My question to you is was it worth 50$?

I spent about 20 hours finishing it. It's much shorter than the original (I spent 60+ hours finishing it the first time), but that 20 hours is better than most I am seeing these days. I spent 50 bucks on Call of Duty and finished the single player campaign in 7 hours....

Personally, yes I think it was worth $50. While it may not be as good as the original Deus Ex (and when you really come down to it, how many games are) it is still very much a fun gaming experience.

There do seem to be some major tech issues, and I was having some problems with my first install, which kept hanging on the load screen. I uninstalled the demo & reinstalled the game and haven't had any problems with it since, other than sporadic crashes to desktop (no worse than Morrowind, and I've been playing that for 2+ years).

I've been playing as liesurly as humanly possible and, not counting re-loading missions etc (which probably add 3+ hours), i'm at the 10 hour point and probably only have a half hour left in the game (i'm on the last level).

... but, I plan on playing it at least 2 more times so I can see all the different faction stuff etc, so when adding re-loading + the extra times I play it, it shold be around 35 hours.

Shut up everyone. If a game is "Short" so what? My best run through Deus Ex is 1h 44min 49s which means that I have to think it sucks because it's short? Blah, we seriously don't need this kind of stuff at these forums. I'm enjoying DX2 even though it's not running that great on my good cpu. I really don't care if it's "short" since I'm already thinking of tons of other ways of beating missions and whatnot on my other runs through the game.

You could get your point across without telling everyone to shut up.

That is your *best* time. How long did it take you the first time through?

Anywho....

Time spent varies simply because on one end you have those who rush through games. On the other end you have those who take as much time as possible, explore very nook and cranny, and really absorb everything the game has to offer. Then the rest fall in between.

I am still awaiting the arrival of my ATI 9800 Pro (which is replacing my 9700 Pro, so I am limping along on an ATi 64DDR VIVO right now), but I plan on purchasing the game and like the original Deus Ex, I will make the 3yr wait count by taking in the experience as slowly and completely as I can.

My objective is to play it in the best way possible the first time through to have the best initial experience able. I will max out my hardware (Not like only for Deux Ex, but it makes a neat, convenient excuse! LOL) and CRAWL through the game if needed to enjoy it as much as possible.

Does it matter? Teh game is short1!11one[/n00b]

Seriously though... What I meant was that almost every game can be turned into a "short" game depending on how good you are.

It took me about 12 hours to get through the first time. My save games showed about 8.5 hours.

I would guess that there are about 25-30 hours of "new" gameplay. I also know that I will be replaying lots of levels just because I enjoyed them so much.

It is much longer than Call of Duty or Max Payne 2, both of which were less than seven hours, soup to nuts.

Well, it can be turned into a short one depending on skill level and how you approach the game. Game I rush I complete fast. It was something I had to break myself of years ago to fully take in every nook and cranny in a complete, deliberate fashion with games. I remember playing games on the SNES and N64 just rushing through the games to try and beat it the fastest and get the best times. In hindsight, what a waste of an experience.

But of course it comes down to skill level. I still laugh whenever I've purchased a game, and the salesperson goes, "would you like a strategy guide to go with that?" To me, that is like buying a ticket to watch a movie, and the cashier going, "would you like Cliff notes/synopsis of the movie booklet for $1.99?" LOL

I'm going to have to say that you're a liar NightCom. My speed run through Deus Ex was almost 7 hours and that was without dying, on easy mode, and just blasting my way through everywhere. Area 51 alone took me more than an hour, but I'm supposed to believe you did it in something like 10 minutes? Consider yourself doubted.

Yeah my best was around six hour pushing to seven. That was skipping text and going as fast as I could. Then again I made a few stupid misstakes and I'm sure it could be done faster.

1h44 though seems a little unrealistic, though I dont know. If you were trying to do it as quick as pobbible, were a very good player, skipped dialogue and didnt include loading times maybe it's possbile, but I highly doubt it.

The first time I did Deus Ex I'm not sure how long it took, but it kept me busy for around a week! No other game has done that since.

Talking 23 Hours+ on the Saved Games...

I had a bit over 23 hours on the saved games after each of the endings. Add about 1.5 hours for the extra 3 endings and my total was about 24.5 to 25 hours...This was on "realistic" and I crawled down every air duct, through every corner of every level. I seriously doubt that I missed anything other a few minor nooks here and there. If you didn't move, or destroy, every wooden and cardboard box in the game, then you almost certainly missed some things. At least one of the secret weapons cannot be found without a great deal of box destruction and looking about. My total time at the keyboard was close to 60 hours between the saves and reloads and trying many things different ways while I was there.

All in all, I more than got my money's worth. My only disappointment was the lousy sound on my Audigy 2 Platinum...popping sounds and almost continuous dropouts on the cut-scenes dialogs. I hope a patch will fix it. Yes, you could get from start to finish with one ending in under 10 hours...but hey, that's not why I play video games...
