Talking Blood Omen 2 coming to GameCube

***EIDOS’ VAMPIRE KAIN BRINGS INTENSE BLOOD-SUCKING COMBAT ACTION TO THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE™ IN BLOOD OMEN 2 THIS HALLOWEEN***

San Francisco, CA (July 23, 2002) – Eidos Interactive, a leading developer and publisher of interactive entertainment, today announced that Blood Omen 2 is scheduled for release on the Nintendo GameCubeä this Fall. Currently in development by Crystal Dynamics, creators of the Soul Reaver franchise, the game’s release marks the first time a video game from the Legacy of Kain series will be available on a Nintendo platform. Blood Omen 2 is a story-driven, combat action game that centers on the fallen vampire Kain and his quest to reclaim rule over the ancient city of Nosgoth.

“We are excited to bring video gaming’s most infamous villain – Kain - to the GameCube in Crystal Dynamics’ Blood Omen 2,” says Sean Amann, Marketing Director for Eidos Interactive. “With an emphasis on storyline, puzzle-solving and deadly combat, Blood Omen 2 for GameCube promises to be one of the few dark thrillers available for the system to date.”

Blood Omen 2 centers on the horrifying vampire Kain, who awakens after a 400-year slumber in a very weakened state. Nearly killed in the wars raged by his vampire armies, Kain must now work to overthrow the opposing Sarafan order to reclaim his rule.

Gameplay in Blood Omen 2 is uniquely combat-based in terms of both attack and defensive blocking maneuvers. The player will engage in battle with armies of demons and soldiers in incredibly realistic combat maneuvers. Kain has over ten deadly weapons at his disposal for enemy attack, each with its own unique animations and spine-tingling finishing moves.

In addition to the wealth of combat in Blood Omen 2, stealth also plays an important role in Kain’s progression through the game. The more the player utilizes stealth to get through situations, the longer the characters in the world won’t realize Kain is a vampire, making the path to completion somewhat easier. Nothing is straightforward though; there are characters and special devices built into the environment that can detect Kain even when he’s being stealthy.

Talking Eventhough I don't have a GameCube...

**waves at Chris*** Hiya! Great thread "Butterfly Lord".

Two Questions:

1. Are they going to change anything (similar to what they did with the new Resident Evil) or is it going to be the same BO2 we all know and love?

2. Any word on if the future installments of the series (SR3/BO3) will also be going cross platform (between PS2 / Xbox / GC)?

Hi there Umah,
I really like your signiture. Sweet!
I wish I had better answers for you, but here is the info I have:
1. Are they going to change anything (similar to what they did with the new Resident Evil) or is it going to be the same BO2 we all know and love?
To the best of my knowledge this should be a direct port. Hopefully some issues that were found after the game was released on PS2 will be fixed. When we get the game in to test, I might have more information for you about this.
2. Any word on if the future installments of the series (SR3/BO3) will also be going cross platform (between PS2 / Xbox / GC)?
At this time I do not believe SR3 has been officially announced for a specific system. Hopefully it will be cross platform, but I do not have any info yet. BO3 has not been announced, nor has any work been started on a third installment of the BO series.

We should get the game in to test within the next month, so I will post more on it then.

Thanks for the sig compliment. I decided to play around again after I was "caught" by XCom for having too tall of a sig. (I think this is my best so far - that doesn't have an homage to Blincoln in it...LOL)

Ooo a direct port? Very cool. Although I am going to miss (humorously) the godzillaesque dialoge/lip synching at the end of Chap 11. (And of course the flickering eyes of the Sarafan Lord)

I know BO3 hasn't been announced yet (I kinda figured no work was started either but a girl can hope eh? LOL). I figured that I would throw it in so maybe we can avoid a contract-exclusive system for the future games to go to.

Can't wait to hear your feedback when you get the GC version Chris! Thanks a lot!

**buys yet another round of ale for Chris and the rest of the forum to enjoy the news of the BO2's addition to the GC***

Well this is absolutely fantastic news! Now I can hear you ask, "Hey, you're a PC gamer, why do you care?" The reason is that platform-exclusive contracts burn me up. In my "humble" opinion, competition among the consoles ought to be based not on what games to which they have exclusive license, but on the relative pros and cons of the system itself: control, capabilities, cost, etc. (Oooh - alliteration!) The merit of the console should be at stake. Now it's not like I'm dying to get a GameCube (if I could afford a console, I'd get a PS2 just because, historically, it's the only one that I've ever been any good at using; the things I did to Mario were inhuman ); it's just the principle of the thing.

So again: bravo, bravo!

I know he is the lead tester, I was just asking if he meant he was testing SR3 a month from now or BO2 for GC. A test for SR3 a month from now would make me cry like a sweet little baby and jump for joy.

Great news! Hopefully someone will release a savegame transfer utility so I can enable the Bonus Mode on the GC version as well =).

Smile Getting BO2 GC within the next month

Keepittrue,
Although I would like to make you cry like a baby and jump for joy, the game we are getting into test soon is BO2 for the GameCube. I do not know when SR3 will be ready for the test cycle. Sorry to tease you like that.

Nice to see that a LoK game makes a foray to the GC. I might play the GC version just to see if the bug issues are fully fixed.
