problem loading/saving game

The LOAD GAME and SAVE GAME menu options are suddenly greyed out.
I'm in the 5th mission (the cable car / radar post mission), and until now I could save and load without problem. This is very unfortunate because I already got the spy his uniform, and can only restart the level using the password.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game to no avail.

One other (maybe unrelated) thing: When I start Commandos it asks for the CD to be placed in the drive. Retry won't work, Cancel starts the game without problems (except of course the above mentioned).

The options of a faulty disc and/or a faulty drive are therefore unlikely imho.

Computer specs: PIV 1,9Ghz, 512Mb RAM, Wiindows XP Home Edition

Does anyone have a solution? Thx in advance.

mmmm i had this problem once but it was because i had copied my Commandos directory from one machine to another rather than reinstalling it.

Quick save/load worked OK but the normal saves and loads didn't work....

This was ages ago so i don't really remember that well but i think it just needed a reinstall to fix it because the install puts an entry into the registry that directs the save game directory and the which drive the video/CD is coming from....

If you are keen (advanced users only)(makesure you backup the registry before making any changes)
check your registry and look for somthing like Hkey\local machine\software\pyro\commandos and have look at what is there, maybe it is pointing to the wrong directory or somthing


Have you made any major changes around the same time you noticed the problem?

have u been modding the game? when you mod the .grl files of the menus it can happen that the menu greyes out. else the pck file is damaged...

I didn't make any changes to the game itself. I have made major changes to XP (installed SP1 etc).

I already did an uninstall and reinstall, but that didn't solve the problem. However, I did leave the original foler structure intact and I didn't check the registry.

I will attempt todo a clean uninstall and reinstall, and check the registry in between.
