minimal game play-dx diag follows

I have only the cursor key functions in the game play. I can not draw a weapon or look at inventory. If I hit ESC I have no control to go to Options or Save or Load. The cursor keys do not work the mouse doesn't work after I hit ESC (the only thing I can do is to turn off my computer).. I do have some gaming control keys but I can't draw a weapon or look at inventory or use a first aid kit. Obviously I'm not going to get very far in the game (although I did get thru the first level......I have a FX 5600 video card, from pro link with the latest driver from the website. I have downloaded dx9 from microsoft. I have downloaded the v49& v42 patch. (I can see the FMV [full motion video, I think that's it]). I have the uninstalled and reinstalled the game.

If someone could offer some help I would appreciate it.

CyCro, Thanks for your response.When I press TAB I get the screen (dark blue with a spiral design in light blue) that has the selections on the right side, but just like the main menu I cannot make any seletion or do anything from that. Nothing. The cursor keys do not work, matter of fact no keys work (except for TAB)and when I press TAB again the screen goes black. I can hear the music and at the beginning of the game I can move Lara blindly and hear the dog bark. My only option at that point is to shut off the computer and then turn it back on and reboot. It seems as though when I press TAB or ESC it turns off every other key, only the TAB or ESC key does anything and that results in a loss of picture and no game controls........ I am very confused........I can see all the movies and I have control of Lara to a minimal degree, only...wierd!!

Hmm... see if the frame rate compensation is set to smooth or fast in the game settings. Set it to fast.
