Well I havent really reached very far, but am loving every single bit of them(maybe not every single bit).
Graphics: Things look so much prettier and smoother than any other PS2 game Ive played. It looks 10 times (maybe an exageration) better than splinter cell(very good, but not in the TR mold) which I am also playing right now. Maybe the bugs will kick in soon and you(and the people at GAME shop) might see me tomorrow all pissed off.(10/10) Sounds: I am extremely disappointed at the initial theme music. The first two TRs had some great music and TR4(tlr)'s tune was equally good. This one tries to be like the old TR and TLR and some action movie type music put together. Just doesnt work. The voice of Lara has been done well by whoever the voice actor is. The french accent of all the people is quite good (but dunno how every french guy knows fluent english)(7/10) Gameplay/Controls: What the feck is the matter with people. Ok for the first 5 minutes its hard to control lara. But anyone with half a brain can get used to it. I have not falled off any ledge or misjudged any jump because of any controls. In fact, I have only fallen once throughout the game so far(played for 2-3 hours) and that was because I did a normal jump instead of a running one. The number of moves and the style of the moves Lara can pull off is outstanding. The camera in some of the area's remains fixed which I didnt like that much. We need to control the camera in all areas. But its definitely tolerable as such areas are very very rare. (10/10) Story/Characters: The story so far has been pretty good but the archeologist inside me wants to go egypt again and raid those tombs. Like in TR1 not like in TR4(loved those platforms at great hights). I hope AOD4 ends in egypt. Maybe the Lux Vertatis thing will be interesting. This particular story is not too bad at all but as soon as I saw Kurtis, I thought "oh crap, Im gona have to play as him soon.". Playing as the other guy will probably ruin the game for me. Will probably tell my sister to play that. (8/10) Bugs: Its been 100% bug free so far. No slowdowns. Really no slowdowns. Maybe if I had a look around in the levels and went places that arent part of the game then I might have found the bugs. I think I'll leave them for the second time. Maybe the slowdowns and other bugs will be coming soon. As I said in another thread, that GAME guy will see me pissed off tomorow if theres too many bugs.(dunno/10) My Scores if TR(original): 10/10 TR2: 6(or maybe 7)/10 TR3: 4/10 TR4(tlr): 8/10 TR:Chronicles: To crap to mention(didnt play) TR:AOD: 9/10(dammit bring back the old music and gimme some archeology, and dont make me play someone else) Maybe tomorow I'll start rating the game(0/10) if too many bugs appear. |

you are very lucky and I'm glad that you are having fun
![]() but you don't have to say what the eff is wrong with people. I play strictly d-pad games like Final Fantasy and have played all my TR games with the d-pad. I don't like analog/joystick games....it's a personal preference and so to me the controls are not intuitive. I have gotten better working them and the camera but I'm forced to do something I don't want to do.....it doesn't enthuse me to the game, especially when the camera gets wiggy and uncontrollable. Also people want to act like analog is the next best new thing....but I grew up with PacMan....it's nothing but a joystick to me so why all the excitment over 1980's technology The graphics are good, Lara looks more real but environment wise nothing has made me go ooooh aaaaah like in Revelations or TR1 with Lara standing at cliffs and the gorgeous Egyptian tombs or even Chronicles London. My game has a crapload of bugs and glitches. I own a laptop and have no intention of shelling out $2000+ on a computer just to play games so I guess I really do just have to deal with it on PS2. It's an okay game, I'm getting through it just out of sheer will and curiousity and can't wait until the end just to say I got through it but it definitely isn't the best game that I've ever played, and I like all of my other TR games better! Forgot to add this, the upgrade system is very stupid. You do a random thing to get strength and has no relation whatsoever with the type of upgrade recieved.
To Eidos: Get rid of the stupid upgrade system. Or specify a task to gain upgrades. Dont make it a secret. Make it visible. To Baby: I know, it is very odd that so many complaints have been posted for areas which Ive already passed and I havent seen one at all. I hope this continues. Ok, maybe I was out of line with the feck. But seriously, I felt the controls were not wrong at all. They work exactly the opposite way you think they should(coz we are used to other games) but after a few minutes, its become second nature to me. Ive hated analogues as well but it does give you more control and if Core guys wana go down that road then so be it. I woulda preferred the old d-pad way too but after playing splinter cell for the last 3-4 days, Ive got pretty used to sticks.
And dont buy games for the PC unless you are definitely sure they'll work well. Apart from the in-game bugs, theres the usual configuration problems and god know what number of errors thanks to big Bill. Anywayz, no hard feelings, maybe the bugs might have had an affect on your opinion about the game itself. I am just hoping I will be in the same happy mood tomorow.

I'm beginning to suspect that the US version really is more buggy than the UK... my experience has been very much like yours, moe888.
And there are some wow-looking environments coming up... and playing Kurtis is fine.

Well how do you explain the bugs on the pc version. Maybe they spent all their time fixing the ps2 version and fix the pc one with patches. Who knows.
I know mine works perferctly, and I am happy with that. I am at the graveyard part now. Bug count so far = 0. |

I'm with you, moe!
Apart from Pierre having no face, and Lara holding an invisible shotgun, I've not encountered any real problems. Loving the gameplay, PC controls are a doddle (if you learn to tap the walk key once in precarious places).....and Lara's new wiggle is quite cute. Just finished Hall of Seasons. |

Did the sticks for the '1980s pacman' allow movement in any of the 360'. I am sure pacman was the either up-down or left-right. That just sounds like the d-pad with sticks. Well I was born in 1980 and my mum wouldnt allow me to go play pacman with the other cool babies, so wouldnt know much about them.
DaveJ and all: The PS2 control are doddlier than doddle. The controls are exactly the opposite of what you think they would do, but as I said before, you get to grips with it in as little as 5 minutes. Of course you need to have played other games with the analogue sticks before, otherwise it will be a whole new experience. Do you think there is any difference in the US and the Uk(and european) version of the games. Theres been so many complaints from the americans while the english havent complained that much at all. Maybe the yanks are just whiny No face guys are never fun to look at but I am looking forward to handling some invisible weapons.

if your game freezes up on you 10 times in one day....then I guess you might have a different perspective, or slowdown or no face or pegleg or everything that a lot of people are experienceing. You sound like you are having a lucky run of it......but don't rub it in! As for controls. I'm at the biodome and all I can say is sprint jump dam it to all heck!

Sorry BkBaby, I'm sure he was kidding (note the
).That's what we're trying to establish - whether our trusty friends across the pond have got a raw deal with a buggy version. Or whether they're just a bunch of whiny, sissy crybabies *runs away and ducks* ![]() (sorry couldn't resist )

doesn't faze me. MY ancestors were happy and all before you brits snatched us up and took us to America so I'm neither brit nor yank I got much to whine about but we won't go there we're trying to keep it somewhat positive around here in spite of all the craziness with this game!

What country are you from Silent? And good to see someone agree that the controls are 'wicked', I feel the same.
I hope Eidos/Core give the americans an improved version (if there is such a thing) as thats a huge market of games that they will lose out on if they didnt take care. And for anyone who reached the graveyard. I dont seem to be able to push that statue, lara pretends to push and then just stops. Is there anything else that needs to be done before. Gona play for a while and expect an answer here tomorow.
