In the sanctuary cutscene just before the canyons, Vorador is explaining to Kain that there are strange beasts roaming the canyons. Kain replies to the effect, "I believe I have already encountered one of these creatures."

Where did he encounter one of the beasts before the canyons?

IMO, he's referring to his tangle with Hash at the end of BO - although some people claim that it is yet another mistake in BO2 and Kain was originally supposed to have fought a demon prior to the canyons.

Ok, I read the other discussion. None of it make sense.

I think the Kain comment was accidentally left in and a scene earlier in BO2 was cut out where Kain sees a demon in a cage somewhere. Much later in BO2 Kain will encounter caged demons on the wharves, so it's not unreasonable to think there may have been a caged demon earlier in the game that was removed from the game before release.

Just a boo-boo, nothing more.
