Cool TRLE Community Level Uno

After 18 months of work, complications, delays, and everything else you saw through the Community Level threads, the first community level is DONE.

I am very proud that we finished it, and I am actually very happy with it. I thought it would never be finished, but I was wrong and it turned out to be an enjoyable level IMNSHO.

Click the logo above to go to the page to download it.
(Thanks Geckokid for uploading it )

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!!
It was a great pleasure for me to lead this project.
I want to give special thanks for all the 23 members that made this level worth of such a long waiting!! Thank you all!!!

I will never be the same again after this level... (lol)

Works, over here, Chronicles, don't know what causes the crash for you

As a wild guess - could it have to do something that the level has more than 300 room tex infos', do you have problems with playing levels that have more than 300 room tex info's?

A cool outfit, MDN made there, I like it!

A big thanks to TReeble for keeping this project alive to the end too

Will there be a TRLE Community Level 2 ?

Will there be a sequel or does that depend on the feedback by the reviewers?

@ 20193, the readme explains very well how to install the level, you should try reading it

As for the info on the level, the page to from which you downloaded the level should give you the main idea.

@TRF, I guess the fate of Community level 2 depends on the interest of people who'd want to make it. I don't think the feedback will play a big role for the 2nd community level's existence.

Thanks eTux. I certainly agree that the feedback of other people wont affect the outcome of the sequel but it depends on Treeble if he is willing to go through it again. I would be willign to help.

@Chronicles5: I havn't had any crashing yet through the level must be u

I don't get what the problem is. I converted the tom and I'm sure it's in the data folder, and I tried the level's script, then I tried mine. I originally made a folder for the level, but when it crashed during loading I figured I'd forgotten the file, so I moved the tut1.tr4.

I have no problem with hi text info levels, I've played one at 600 before...

I'm going to try re-converting, I bet that's the problem...

Great stuff Treeble, Tina will be pleased.

BTW, Tina's no longer using the email address you gave and she doesn't have internet access anymore, she's away on a course.

Well done everyone! I can't wait to play it!

Incidently if there is going to be a sequel I'd love to help build a part of it!

When I was playing the level, I noticed a fault in the gameplay, actually, 2 faults.
When a player does not pick-up the second star or half of the eye piece, there is no security that prevent the player from going to the next rooms. And when the player realizes at the end that he missed the other half of the eye piece, he can't go back to find it because in some rooms there are slopes where you slide or fall down and can't climb back up

I think this should be fixed, as it's quite annoying to a. start from a earlier saved game or b. start the whole level over again if you don't have back-up savegames

I think you can always backtrack for those items (not sure, though), and the only problem with the 2nd star room is the bug (rather - unintended way to go on) where players may land next to an opening instead of the platform they should land on and go further this way without getting the star - but as I said they can backtrack for it

I did point that out too Driber in the past thread but no-one responded to it. I made sure my bit was accessable from the previous room and the room after.

Driber, well you do have a point there (sorry TrueRaider, I didn't respond you because I really didn't see that ). I will fix that. Anything else that should be rectified?

Anyone would still be interested in Community Level Dos? We could start it really soon, but I don't think it would be much different (and we'd have to find someone to build the wad - this one wouldn't build any room though - if you don't want another Egypt level).

I might consider taking it if there's still BIG interest in it...

Count me in!

Things to consider:
Looks like you're already considering a custom wad! Great!
Custom textures would be a plus.
And, let everyone do all the work at once. That way we wouldn't have to go through three phases again and would get it out quicker.

Just food for thought .

How about filling those holes in the eye structure (my room), so no-one would think of going through them?

Either make that square a wall, texture and light it accordingly, or place the lion statues and see if they make a difference - if you'll make an updated version, please

I think Level one was a very interesting experience and I'll play the second if you decide to build it. Egyptian levels aren't my favorite but it seems you'd like to do something different, right?

I'd be in for a sequel as well

I agree with KingSpider, custom textures are a must this time!

and also the one-phase idea, this will make it go a lot quicker

furthermore, I suggest we do it with less people this time, for the sake of
1 - time
2 - more objects per room
3 - more room levels (connected rooms)
4 - more custom texture tiles per member - if we will be using custom textures, that is

a minor thing, but in Suzie's room, there is an illigal slope where the player can get stuck (and I did)

I also agree with Driber. More rooms per person would be less restictive. I don't know about anyone else, but I really felt restricted with my rooms and didn't get to do exacly what I wanted.

About the less people idea. Think about this: Alot of people wanted to join after we filled up last time. So, maybe we could do level skips and not restrict the total people so much as restrict the number to each level? We could all still use the same wad/textures. And we'd have to have the last room of each level setup so it connects to the first of the next level so it doesn't show that levels first room. I know this kind of expands it to a Community Game rather than a Community Level and it may be hard to to keep it straight, but it's a thought.

I just had a thought.
Since I wrote PRJMerge to copy the rooms from one PRJ file into another, everyone could design their rooms in their own project. Then they could all be combined into one level. As long as everyone uses the same TGA file, all of the textures will also be copied. It also copies lights, sounds, cameras, and their triggers. The only thing it doesn't copy is WAD objects and their triggers.
This could speed up development a great deal, since everyone could design, texture, and light their rooms simultaneously. You could add objects to the finished project.
