Technical Setup Errors

I have currently played Hitman up to the last Chapter and was forced to reinstall the entire game.
Now the game fails to to start after loading with an error of:
"hitman.exe has made an error and needs to restart" then returns to Desktop. I've reinstalled the game several times (scandisk and defragging after each install) but with the same results.
I currently have a computer with the following specs with all updated software:

WindowsXP Pro Plus Service Pack 1
AMD 2600+ 333MHz (166MHZ system bus)
SOYO KT400 Dragon Ultra
Micron PC2700 DDR 512MB
Maxtor 30 GB
ATI Radeon 8500LE 128MB DDR
C-Media on board sound
Lite-On 52x CD-RW


Any tech tweaks to the registry or added adjustments would be apprediated in order to just get to the setup menu within the game itself would be a great step forward.

As I mentioned it did play well with this configuration before.
