Default Not Sneaky, but Interesting Game

I play a lot of independent freeware games that I find scattered around the internet, and occasionally I find some really good ones.

Zwischenzug is definitely one of the more interesting titles I've found. It's a 2003 IGF finalist and is an impressive-looking 3D game considering it's free.

You play a bug-like character and the object is to knock chess pieces out of various playing arenas.

The download is 23.2MB. Since the game is rather weird there's some potential for disappointment so I don't recommend downloading it using a dialup connection.

Not at all. It's a real time action game: the chess pieces attack you by ramming, shooting, etc. in an attempt to knock you off and your character has five or so types of attacks for trying to do the same to them.

The enemy pieces look and move in ways similar to how they move in the real game (the knight jumps in L patterns and the rook moves in straight lines), but other than that the gameplay has little resemblance to the popular board game.
