Not 100% sure if he means Rise of the Tomb Raider or, if for some reason he means TR'13 still, but Jason Graves posted this on his Facebook profile: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...2032665&type=1

Oh, I didn't see that, is that a new comment to clarify? I thought maybe it could be.

IGN ran an article about the recently announced novel, and there were some questions in the comments section that we wanted to answer. “Tomb Raider: The Ten Thousand Immortals” is a traditional novel, as opposed to a graphic novel, and it will become canon within the franchise. It takes place immediately after the events of the Tomb Raider 2013 game, and before the events of the Dark Horse comic series. They each cover a different part of Lara’s time and development before “Rise of the Tomb Raider” begins.*

You can see the complete IGN article here:

    Dear Tomb Raider Community,

As you may have seen, we’ve just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox. We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio.

Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built.

    Thanks,

    Darrell Gallagher
    Crystal Dynamics Head of Studios

Thank you for sending us your comments and questions. We looked through the posts on several channels and collected the questions you asked the most into the following FAQ.

    1. What does exclusive to Xbox mean?
It means that Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming Holiday 2015 exclusively on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
    2. Does the exclusive to Xbox have a duration? Is it timed? How long is the duration? Can we expect a PlayStation 4 or PC release in the future?
Yes, our deal with Microsoft has a duration. We aren’t discussing details of the deal, and are focused on delivering a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360.*
    3. Did Crystal Dynamics know about this deal?
Yes, Crystal Dynamics is excited to be partnering with Microsoft to make the best game possible. As Darrell mentioned in his message, we have a long history with Microsoft and they have been a very strong supporter of the franchise. They will help us grow and nurture the Tomb Raider franchise more than ever before.
    4. Were the fans considered when making this decision? Are Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix aware of the franchise history with PlayStation and on PC?
Of course.* We did not make this decision lightly. Our goal is to build the best game that we possibly can, and our relationship with Microsoft will help us realize our vision for the game.
    5. Why didn’t Microsoft, Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics say upfront it was a timed exclusive? Why all the indirect language?
We certainly didn’t intend to cause any confusion with the announcement. The Microsoft Gamescom stage was a great place to make the initial announcement, but not necessarily to go into details.

Any other Whovians in the house? Last week’s Doctor Who episode - Time Heist - starred classic Croft voice actress Keeley Hawes, who you can hear return in the upcoming Temple of Osiris.*

Any of you who watched the episode have a hard time not hearing Lara in her performance? :P

“We had plenty of collectibles and treasures to grab which all goes toward end of level bragging rights and helps keep that friendly competitive rivalry alive and kicking. With loads of enemies, a decent amount of puzzles and traps to keep us on our toes, and even a mad dash along a crumbling walkway. Before we knew it the level and our time with the game was over. It seemed to go by so quickly. I could have happily played the entire game there and then.”

    ancientart:

Do not stand up against / me as witness; do not contradict me in the court; do nothing against me in front of the deities; / do not treat me with hostility in front of the Keeper of the Balance. You are my Ka (life-force), which is in my body; the creator, / who makes the limbs of my body whole; you may come out to the beautiful place, which is there prepared for me. Do not cause my name / to stink in the presence of the members of the court, who make people to resurrected (at) the beautiful place. Excellent is it for the posers; a pleasure is it / for the judge. Do not speak lies against me beside the great god.”

-A translated section from the right scarab, which is from*spell 30B of the “Book of the Dead” (trans. Walters).

    Scarabs in ancient Egypt.

One of the most well-known amulets from ancient Egypt is the scarab, which represented the dung-beetle. These amulets were usually made of faience or stone, decorated with an almost endless*repertoire of geometric and figurative designs engraved on the base, and came in various sizes.

Originally a form of personal seal, scarabs took on the role of good-luck charms. The scarab-beetle itself was*associated*the Atum and the sun god Re, both deities concerned with resurrection and rebirth. The idea that the dung beetle was symbolic of rebirth and regeneration was probably inspired by its life cycle. When the beetle laid its eggs hidden in the sand, the newly hatched insects would emerge from seemingly nowhere, as though they were the result of self-generation.*

Large scarabs with engraved text from the Book of the Dead were used as a substitute for the heart in burial, intended to ward of evils and help gain the joys of the Egyptian paradise. The scarab shown in the right image is one such heart scarab. This funerary amulet was intended to have a supportive function for its deceased owner in the Court of the Dead, as illustrated by its translated text at the start of the post.

Both chosen examples of scarabs are from the Walters Art Museum,*Baltimore, and via their online collections:*1984.30.5 &*42.81. The first dates to*946-525 BC (Third Intermediate-early Late Period), and the second,*1070-736 BC (Third Intermediate).

When writing up this post*Rosalie David’s*Religion and Magic in Ancient Egypt (Penguin UK, 2002) was of use.
