Exclamation Angel of Darkness: TECHNICAL PROBLEMS? READ THIS FIRST!

Q: Where do I find the patch?
A: You will find find the patches and savegames here:
    http://www.eidosinteractive.co.uk/su....html?gmid=134

The server only allows 250 people to download simultaneously. So if you can't download it, wait an hour and try again.

Installing the patch sometimes changes game settings back to default.

    Game setup

Q: How do I change the controller on the PS2 around?
A: The manual is in error, you cannot change the controls.

The manuals (LOTS of them) were printed awhile before the game controls were finalized, and the ability to change from the default controls was removed after they were printed, sorry for the confusion.

    Troubleshooting

Q: The game is not running on my computer. What do I do?
A: Update your drivers. Graphic, Sound and AGP drivers. After installing those new drivers reinstall DirectX.

If that doesn't help use the search function to find out if someone else has a similar problem which was already solved in another thread.

If you can not find anything that matches your problem post and ask for help. Make sure you give us enough information to help you. (post the results of your DXDiagnostics)

Click Start, then run. Type dxdiag and click ok. In the new window click save information as... and save the file to your harddrive by clicking ok again.

In that file you have now everything you need to know about your computer. Post those information (all of it) in your thread.

    Q: How do I get my DXDiag.txt?
A: Click Start, then run. Type dxdiag and click ok. In the new window click save information as... and save the file to your harddrive by clicking ok again.

Q: Do I need to update all my drivers?
    A: Yes

    Q: Are you sure?
A: YES, update your drivers. Graphic, Sound and AGP drivers.

    Q: I am getting a 'Sys_error_structured_exception_handle'-error on startup.
A: Go to your Windows Control Panel (->Start ->Settings ->Control Panel. Click Sound and Multimedia. Once you are in Sound and Multimedia Properties click the Audio tab. In the box 'Sound Playback' click Advanced, choose the Performance-tab and set the Hardware acceleration from Full acceleration to Basic acceleration.

    Q: I am getting a 'GAME_ERROR_STRUCTURED_EXCEPTION_HANDLE'-error on startup.

Disable EAX in your game settings if it is still enabled.

If none of the above helps, try to go a different route in the game or reload an earlier savegame.

    Q: I am getting a 'SYS_ERROR_D3D_CREATE_DEVICE'-error on startup.
A: Make sure your graphic card is enabled in the settings of the game. Make sure the checkbox 'enable' is filled in the graphic tab.

This error might also indicate that either your graphic card is not up to the task of playing TR:AOD or that the driver for your graphic card is too old. Download the latest version of your graphic card driver and install it. After you have done that download the latest version of DirectX and install it. If you already have the latest Version of DirectX installed, install it again by just doubleclicking the installation file.

Q: Lara speaks like a chipmunk. How do I fix it?
A: Go to your Windows Control Panel (->Start ->Settings ->Control Panel. Click Sound and Multimedia. Once you are in Sound and Multimedia Properties click the Audio tab. In the box 'Sound Playback' click Advanced, choose the Performance-tab and set the Hardware acceleration from Full acceleration to Basic acceleration or No Acceleration.

Q: I am getting a black screen after the FMV or the last frame of the FMV sticks, no menu. What do I do?
A: Here are some of the settings you can change that have helped in some of the cases:

Set Frame Rate Compensation to Fast if it is set to Smooth.

If that doesn't do the trick, disable the option Post Process in your game graphic card settings under Render Targets. (Thanks to Cube for this one)

If that doesn't do the trick, disable AA, Framerate Compensation and check vsync.

Check your settings. If you find a HID conform Device in your settings, disable it.

Check the game settings. There might be tabs for more control devices than just keyboard and the default mouse. Disable all control devices but keyboard and mouse. If you have a gamepad, make sure there is only one tab enabled for such a device.

Q: I can not load/save the game using WinXP. How do I fix it?
A: Make sure the shortcut and the TRAOD exe file are not set to Win95/ME compatibility mode.

    Misc.

Q: Where can I download the Demo for Tomb Raider - The Angel of Darkness?
A: Sorry, but a playable demo hasn't been released yet.

Q: Will the game be released for the XBox?
    A: So far, no.

Q: Will the game be released for the PS1 or GameCube?
    A: No.

Q: Will the game be released for Mac?
A: No such plans yet. Usually it is done by a 3rd party after the release of the PC version. Only time can tell.
    [Edit]Done

Q: Will the game contain a Level Editor?
A: No, there will be no Level Editor with TR:AOD.

Q: What are the System Requirements for Tomb Raider - AoD?
    A:

    Minimum (with TnL Graphiccard):
    • 500 MHz CPU
    • 16MB Graphiccard 100% TnL capable, DX9 compatible
    • 200 MB harddrive space
    • Windows 98 (Win95 is not supported)
    • 128 MB Ram

    Minimum (without TnL Graphiccard):
    • 1.5 GHz CPU
    • 8MB Graphiccard
    • 200 MB harddrive space
    • Windows 98 (Win95 is not supported)
    • 128 MB Ram

    Recommended:
    • 1.5 GHz CPU
    • 64MB Graphiccard 100% TnL capable, DX9 compatible
    • 3D Soundcard (EAX2 or I3DL2)
    • 200 MB harddrive space
    • Windows 2000 / Windows XP
    • 128 MB Ram

    Q: What is TnL / T&L?
A: Read about it here (Thanks for the link, Nerevar.)

Q: Does my graphic card support T&L?
A: We don't know. Depends on your graphic card. Ask you Operating System or your manual what graphic card you have and check the manufacturers website. Use DXDiag to find out what graphic card you have (see explaination below)

Goran, I hope you don't mind, but I can take this.

Most sound devices available in computers that support DirectX 9.x should run the game successfully. However, if you wish to have all of the bells and whistles of 3D sound you will need a sound card that supports EAX 3.0. The only cards that this writer is aware of that has that support would be the Audigy and Audigy 2 by Creative Labs.

I have such a device on the system at work I played the game on. I must admit that the differences are quited stunning between the "normal" audio and the 3D sound.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Default XP Pro? Laptops?

    Hi there!

Will the PC version run on XP Pro or only XP? How about other NT derivatives?

Also, how about laptops? Or do the graphics requirements preclude laptops?

    Finally, hot enough for ya?

    Cool Sounding off again

    [RedLegg]

Is the Audigy 2 significantly better than the Audigy? It looks like an Audigy 2 would be about $50-$60 more than an Audigy... is the difference significant enough to spend the bux?

Thanks for all the help, RedLegg!

Audigy2 is the best imo, i have both, audigy 1 in my Athlon 1000 and Audigy2 in my p4 2800,

Audigy2 lets u listen to better, sharper, crystalclear sound effects/music than the first one, e.g. when u walk in a hall way,
and fire a shot u can actually hear the sound echoe against the walls like in real life. and in an open field.. u would hear the same effect as in real life.. so id say, Audigy2

But then again just for the people that cant afford or simply just wannapklay AoD, id recommend a WindowsXP complient card. like almost any soundblaster created by Creative Labs or 3rd party cards like Soundblaster.

    - Andy

    Edit - reply @ Dafydd,
I cant explain the exact difference between those 2 cards, but i can assure um that when u use an Audigy2 if properly installed and configured that u wouldnt ever go back to Audigy 1. the sound effects are so much more clearer.. try to play battlefield 1942 for example.. so realistic like never b4

and before u ask the mods here if audigy2 will be supported by AoD. yes it will.. every new game designed for Dx9 will support Audigy2

    Default Audigy vs. Audigy 2

    [FantomPhreak]

Thanks, FP; I'll stare at my checkbook for a while and try to decide whether I can shake out the extra bucks for the Audigy 2!

XP means of course Home and Pro. As for WinNT, no way.

Laptops. Depends on the laptop. The requirements are the same. If you have a fast laptop with a mobile ATI or NVidia gpu and a proper soundcard it should work.

Rolleyes Obviously, you're not educated enough to...

know what the term "Cut and Paste" means.

ALL of the items listed in my system stats were taken from the Device Manager's Properties Window using "Cut and Paste". And as for the page file size, I modified that myself.

A simple question of whether or not my system can handle Tomb Raider: AOD, after I read this post that says you need a processor speed of 1.5 Ghz AND a video card that supports TnL, should not be SLAMMED but answered with a simple yes or no followed by an explaination.

Yes, my education. A sad story.

BTW, it says "a processor speed of 1.5 Ghz OR a video card that supports TnL".

I don't know what that means since I just used copy and paste on that info.

I don't know why are you asking that and getting mad at other people

If you read carefully the game specifications you will notice that your PC is perfect for the game
You have a great sound card and really good speakers
your video card is very good as well and is has TnL
    you have enough memory
and a processor that is enough

It seems as tho a full install is about 1.4 gigs of disc space. Which also allows me to play with no cd. Thanks guys good job!

    Default Training or House

Does the Angel Of Darkness have training like TR 4, or maybe Lara's home like TR 1,TR 2,TR 3 ? It would be nice !

    Cool

It does have a training sequence, but not in her house. Wouldn't fit into the story.

    Cool

    I updated the FAQ troubleshooting.

If you find anything that deserves to be in there, post a quote in here, I will add it.

    Thanks.

Ok, I have a really old out dated PC here, and I'm wondering if I can make AoD work on it (if not I'll wait till Fri when a laptop and a very nice monster of a computer come home ).

Breathe slowly and evenly into a paper bag, inhaling and exhaling until your pulse slows and you regain control. Hope you feel better soon.

    Default Running problems

I'm having the enxt error message when I try to run the game:
    SYS_ERROR_D3D_CREATE_DEVICE

I already read about enabling my graphics card but the settings window doesn't seem to have that option for me, the only tabs I'm getting are general, sound, mouse and keyboard.
    Somebody help me out please!

    David
