After reading many posts, I believe there are tons of TR experts out there. I am just beginning my TR adventures. I am starting the 3rd level of the first TR game. Typically, I like to "get everything available" and "do everything that can be done" in a game. So I am wondering:
How can you tell if you've picked up all of the items? While playing, how can you tell how many secrets are in a level? (I can tell the amount of secrets when I finish a level) How can you tell if you've made all the possible "kills" in a level? Is there ever a score in these games? Anyway, I was just wondering. So far I'm having lots of fun! Fudgerat |

im not sure if you can tell how many kills youve gotten. but i know if you are methodical and take your time and what not, you should pick up everything, get all secrets and kill everything/everyone.

In TR 1, the statistics screen only displays at the end of a particular level to tell you how many secrets were in the level. In other games, you can check this during the level play and it is again recapitulated at level's end.
There aren't any bonuses in TR 1 for finding every secret, but in some other games there are, such as access to bonus levels or increased ammunition for particular weapons. Levels 1 and 2 in TR 1 have 3 secrets and level 3 has 5. Complete game info and walkthroughs are available at several places on the net, for those times when you get really stuck or want to check and see what's where in a given level. www.tombraiders.net/Stella has a really good one, it has nice tips on gameplay and interface control, just avoid the temptation to get a full roadmap of how the games play, might spoil your fun, but it's there if you need it.

Thanks for the tips and answers!
I love to figure a game out all by myself. However, if I do get really, REALLY stuck, usually I only want a small clue. Thanks again for the responses! Fudgerat |

Save in a few different spots, that way you can go back if by the end of a level you see that you are missing something. This only works for the secrets, and it's not fun to do things over again...
Stella's walkthru for each level begins with a summary of pickups, kills & secrets, if you just look at that it won't spoil the fun. You'll be in "Lost valley" soon, lots of fun!

Good advice from all but especially Solange! Save in a few different places and you can always go back! I always do that! You are in for a thrilling ride, enjoy!

Thanks tons for all the tips and advice. I am definitely a "saver" of games. I only just finished the "City of Vilcabamba" a few days ago and I already have 26 saves. I am a bit frustrated because I have to wait to get my PayPal started up so I can pay for Glidos. It's SO darn hard to wait when you want to play so badly!!!!
I definitely will remember Stellas site in case of a dire emergency. I may start TR2 if I can't wait for Glidos.... we'll see. Fudgerat |

I recommend finishing once with no help unless absolutely stuck.
Save before passing any points-of-no-return and scour the area fully then move on. After finishing the game, d/l Stella's walkthroughs and have a buddy read just ahead of your progress in a new game and give hints ONLY for getting all items/secrets/optimal tactics. Much more fun that way. |

A rare FREE version of glidos is here:
http://www.tombraiders.it/download/t...lidos_v1_7.exe It's free, but an early version, but it works fine on most of the pc's. Do not use cheats and let us know what's your opinion when TR1 is finished... the best TR story is there, FMHO, but the best game is TR3, the hardest one, the most various, huge, funny and coherent locations

I suggest you don't get help even if you are stuck. Back when I played TR for the first time, TR2 being the first game I played, I didn't even know walkthrus existed! I had to figure everything out myself and in some levels, I would just wander and wander looking for the answer but eventually, when I did find what I was looking for, it was the greatest feeling in the world! So just stick to your guns and avoid the temptation of Stella's walkthrus.
